GM extended warranty non transferable?

Quick back background to this story. Last june i purchased my 07 cobalt used from a chrysler dealership. I had took it to a local chevy dealership for warranty work and i was told by the service guy that there had been an extended warranty purchased for my car. The warranty was simular to the bumper to bumper warranty, only it went to 160k kilometers. He said i should be able to get this warranty no charge, so he gave me the number of the man to talk to, to get this done.

I call the guy, explain what i was told and he says " nono, first off its not free to transfer, there is a fee, and second you need the signature from the previous owner to sign off" Now the fee didnt bother me, but having a signature from the previous owner did, because i got the car from a dealership, it was traded in. And they arent allowed to give out the name of the previous owner for privacy law reasons.

I however found the previous owner because they still had my car on craigslist. So when i phoned the owner, they told me they cant help me, they sold it because they had moved to the other end of the country.

End result, now it is impossible for me to get this warranty because they cant sign it off without the person who purchased it to sign off on it and this warranty hasnt even been touched yet. Do you guys think there is any way of getting this extended warranty out of them? I find it really stupid that the only way you can technically get this warranty tranfered is if the owner sold it privately. When they do a trade in your screwed because they wont give out the info of who the previous owner was! Grrr

fax it to them? email it to them? mail it to them?

there are ways they can still sign it and get it back to you...And yes, they NEED to sign off on it, there's no other way (unless you forge it I suppose)

then you're screwed b/c they purchased it, they can choose to not transfer it.
the dealer probably didn't mention it b/c they assumed the customer would want more for their trade in

No not yet, just got off the phone with GMPP. They said because of the miss information i was told by the gm dealer at the beginning which basically led me to not getting this warranty right away, that there is a chance i can get it.

What i have to do is go down to the dealership, get the warranty transfer papers and have them co-sign it, then i write a letter stating all the things that went on that i stated in my OP and mail it off the their head office. Then a manager will review it and let me know if they will approve it or not.

Its a slim chance but theres still a chance lol
