Heres how I understand it. With slicks, they have a much much softer sidwall which absorbs a lot of the shock from hard launching. So while you are able to launch harder on slicks it is actually easier on your drivetrain than with street tires or even drag radials.

As long as you don't get into wheel hop you should be fine.

Slicks FLEX and absorb some of the impact... But it's a silly question. You might or might not. You could blow the tranny too... Or smoke your clutch. Just go out and do it and break what fixes.

slicks have a soft sidewall be they will actually "krinkle" under a hard launch to improve traction and then basically throw the car forward. If you watch like nhra on espn and they show a dragster or funny car in slow-motion you can see the side walls actually load up. When you hear those type of cars go into tire shake it is from the sidewalls throwing the car forward violently and actually vibrating the tires.

our cars cannot use slicks to their full potential without a lot of modification that would otherwise render the car (to a fair amount of people) not streetable
