Trans Issues

Well The other day my car started grinding when shifting into second...
i think it has something to do with the clutch but i dont know.
the other day i had myself 300lbs, my buddy 190lbs, and my other buddy 210lbs in my car and i did a hard shift into second and it seemed like the clutch was slipping, but it NEVER slipps second so i didnt think much of it.
it occasonaly does in 3rd tho.
the clutch is a Stage 4.4 Clutch Masters Clutch six puck
Now when i got my clutch installed on my car i dont think they adjusted or bleed the clutch line because when im letting the clutch out the new one will not grip till the pedal is at the same spot as the old one, so is the clutch not ingageing enough? or do you think theres more wrong like a syncrow?

now if the trans is fucked, it looks like im just gonna deal with it for a bit till i can afford a rolled ss s/c and take the motor from that.
OR will a 2.0 internals work on a 2.2 tranny?
and lastly if the 2.0 internals will not work, is there any other option i have to make my tranny stronger?

I had a 2nd gear synchro go out completely then 2nd gear went completely out(as in you put it in 2nd and there was nothing there). My whole transmision got rebuilt and a new clutch as well(thank you warranty)and I do not think F35 internals will work in a F23.I know the input shaft is larger on the F35 so that wont work on your clutch.

I had the same problem in my LS, off the lot. Not a day after we drove it home we noticed it grinded into fourth every once in a while. Month later is was just about every time you went into fourth you got a grind. So we took it in under warranty, dealer said it was a factory defect and that they'd seen it before so they were just going to replace the transmission. GM wouldn't let them just stick in a new one, so they "fixed" it, and a month later when the same thing started happening in third gear, they finally replaced it completely. I've been hearing problems about our synchros not lining up right every time too though. And I believe I experience that when every once in a blue moon I'm blocked out of first gear and I have to go back to neutral and try again. I'm starting not to like our tranny...

Exactly! Like it didn't matter how perfectly I shifted it made that stupid little grind anyways. Ugh. I wish they'd told me what the problem was, but I didn't really care at the time I just wanted it fixed. I have to go back to the dealer now anyways to get a LOT of things checked out, so I'll tell them to take a look at the synchros too.

Alright cool hey if you find out what's make the trans go like that tell me cause I haven't had the dealer look at my trans cause if they don't find anything I don't want to pay 1k just for them to drop the trans and look at it lol

They can't do that to you. The only reason they can say it's not under warranty is if the aftermarket parts are what caused the problem. This is an extremely common problem among cobalt owners everywhere, in fact, print this out and show them if they don't want to fix it.

Off the lot, my car had issues shifting into second. I had second gear synchros issue where they replaced my syncros first time, second time they accused me of my driving/mods but I disputed with GM & won... they gave me a new F23 tranny with latest revisions == no issues.

Being blocked out of a gear is because of the syncros but only because the dogteeth happen to be in line with each other or because the input side of the tranny(clutch side) is still spinning. Grinding is also cause of the dogteeth because once again they arent spinning at the same speed. Pykie, technically you could correct this by having a transmission shop build you a "Dog box" but overall strength of the trans will be reduced by half. I would just get a new 1st/2nd syncro and a new 2nd gear you should be able to pull the trans, remove & replace the parts, and reinstall everything in about 8 hours.

I had the same problem with mine when I shifted to 3rd. My advice is don"t let it linger too long if it grinds. I was able to sync the gear myself for a while, then eventually 3rd started popping out of gear on its own. I stopped using it completely. Then my clutch started going out and failed completely eventually. Luckily I went to basic training for the air force 2 weeks later, then tech school. Bought a stage 1 exedy clutch while there and when I got back home to my car I trailered it to a shop I've used for 4 years to replace the 3rd gear syncro and have my new clutch put in. It turns out the 3rd gear shreaded itself and ruined my seals and actually fried my stock clutch because of the tranny fluid. $2600 later and 7,000 miles (of course I let the tranny break in), now my 2nd gear is grinding. It will engage sometimes but now I can't even sync it myself. Now I rev to 5 in 1st and go directly into 3rd. Simple and plain, our transmissions SUCK! Who outsources a tranny from Sweden? No offense to the Swedish on this site. The idea to mate a world class engine with a Swedish tranny just doesn't seem that well thought threw. German engine should have German tranny. My advice to all... just build the tranny. I'm going to fix the tranny for the last time in fear that I might destroy my exedy clutch that's under a year old and save up my money. I'm trying to decide if I wanna trade up for an STi (my car will be paid off around December/January) or see if I can mount the engine to mate up with the transmission from a Solstice, fab a driveshaft, and does anyone know how the Solstice rear end matches up with the width of the Cobalt? I'm tired of fwd. It's either awd, or rwd coby for me. Single with government funded housing and food allowance, $1600 a month, and a car note that's about to disappear leaves a lot of options for me... as long as I can stay away from ebay and my love for my Cobalt.
