GM Wont pay for rental!! *rant*

not sure if this is the right area to post...

brought my car in to service on may 15th b/c of a jerking/stalling/hesitation/low power problem that was occurring...tach was inoperative and there was no check engine light....advisor witnessed the issue himself and wrote it up (i assume it was a problem with the crankshaft position sensor)...i also informed him that there was a problem with 2nd gear grinding on downshifts which i attributed to a failed synchro...both of these issues should be under warranty..

i figured that while they had the trans out id have them install a new exedy stage 1 clutch as well as a new clutch actuator unit as well...save some $$ in the long run

the advisor said that he was not sure if i qualified for a rental car and he would look into it...i decided to get one anyway figuring that even if it wasnt covered, it wouldnt take more than a few days to fix....

first of all i did not qualify for a rental car...ok no biggie so its $35 a day for a couple days...
now its going on 10 working days and 2 weekends and a holiday...my cars still in pieces on the garage floor waiting for parts which have yet to arrive...this is also the case with several other customers in the shop

i put a call in to pontiac customer assistance yesterday...guy was more than helpful in taking down my information and he let me know that i would get a call back today with information on wheter i would get reimbursed or not for the rental

i get a call back today from some lady obviously reading a 2 line script

"we're sorry that you are having this problem. unfortunately we will not be covering your rental costs"

no matter what i said...this was her answer...i asked her for a manager she said "that wont make any difference this is the answer you are getting"

at this point im so ******* pissed...she said that she would forward the case to a manager and id get a call back sometime today...

any suggestions/advice?? if they dont at least pay for some of the rental im seriously going to trade my car in for a genesis or something as soon as i get it back

Wow... yea next time don't offer to pony up for a rental yourself. Once you do that it is bully time for any rep.

Go in... have them do the warranty work.. get the rental papers.. THEN ask for the additional stuff.

I had the same problem with Toyota and my POS Scion. They would only cover rentals for 1 week and it took 2 weeks to get the parts to fix my car. It didn't matter that it was Toyota's fault my car couldn't be fixed sooner.

In NJ 20 days downtime classifies as unreasonable length of service and you can get them to buy the car.(part of lemon law)

that's not right. ****, my dealer let's me borrow one of their cars so i don't even have to go through the whole rental process. if their cars are all used up then they give me a rental. i don't go to gm dealers though.

is your car still under warranty?

I'd expect a rental to be paid because it clearly states that courtesy transportation will be offered in my owners manual. Hard to fight with black and white. Maybe this is not the case for your year (mine's 09)?

just an update...

basically the entire 1-2 gear shafts are being rebuilt and they have all the parts except 2nd gear which they may not be able to get until june 16th...thats a month and a day after the car went into the shop...

As soon as i get the car back safe and sound GM customer service is going to have to listen to me every single day until something is done about this...

Rental costs so far = $950 and counting

checked the manual...courtesy transportation is only covered under the bumper to bumper warranty...knowing this now i would be entirely willing to cover the cost of a weeks car rental seeing as thats what i would reasonably expect a job like this to take....however over a month is complete bullshit and GM should be held accountable for the rest of the rental period

Mine is going into the shop for a couple small things come Monday and I asked about the rental and they told me that if they had to keep the car overnight then I would be provided with one free of charge

Since they're taking an unacceptable length of time and their customer service hasn't helped, utilize the BBB card. Seriously.

If a company is trying to screw you, they'll keep screwing you until you call the BBB. I went though the same issues with Tracfone... they kept stealing minutes from my old phone until I called the BBB on their ass.
