What is the spring pressure on the S20G Wastegate??
Hey guys, I recently purchased the AEM tru-boost controller and I need to input the spring pressure rate on the Wastegate for the S20G turbo from the Hahn stage V turbo. This might be a dumb question but I have no idea so any help would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know what I should set the duty cycle too on this gauge? I can go between 10%-90% and there is an A and B setting. Im not very knowledgable yet on this and I took the car for a spin last night and tried to monkey around with it but I cant seem to get it right. I am noticing however that when the turbo spins back its doing this like all the time even when the bov is releasing and before the installation of the boost controller I had nice smooth blow offs without any back spin from the turbo so Im very confused. Sorry if this is a very rookie question but as I said I am still learning so please bear with me. Thanks ahead of time for any help with this
The spr setting on the AEM is not the exact number the wastegate spring pressure is at! Start off with setting the A or B to the boost level you want. Then start with a spr pressure of about 3.0. Do a pull, and see if the boost is holds constant or creeps. If it holds constant, do not increase it. If it does creep you need to adjust it until it doesn't. You must find the happy spot where it makes the turbo spools quick, but doesn't creep.
I personally hate this AEM tru-boost controller. I think its made so cheap and looks like crap. I think Im just gonna remove it and go with the GReedy controller. I should have read the reviews before jumping on this unit.
The Greddy unit is indeed nice, but the AEM is definitely workable. The SPR setting is the exact same as the "Gain" setting on the Greddy one. Once it is adjusted properly you will like it especially if you hook up the scramble boost feature. Basically, read this and if you still have questions ask me. I pulled it off the SRT-4 forums and it was very helpful when setting it up on my Integra.
...Turn the key to the on position and hold the left button for 2 sec. It will display an "A"....this turns on the A map...push the left btton one more time.....push both buttons at the same time should turn on this map.
Now you can set all the other parameters too.
Hold both buttons for 5 seconds and then hold both buttons again for 5 seconds.
You can set your peak display scale and a bunch of other things while in there.....it is best to read the directions and use your common sense to where to set it all at....ex. If you only run 17 psi don't set the outside scale to 30 psi...set it to 17 or 20..............and set the display in psi not anything else.
Once all your settings are right you can start tuning it.
Turn the key back off to save all settings then turn the key back on.
Press both buttons for 5 seconds and it should display A10 this mean boost setting a 10% duty cycle start the tuning process from here.
From this point all you have to do is press the left and right buttons to up or lower the duty cycle but remember always hit both buttons 2 times in a row to save the setting you just set. It will say run when it is saved.
Start the car and go out and start your tuning....sometimes it will take 20-30% duty cycle to get any psi increase in boost.
Run the car and keep pressing both buttons for 5 seconds to get you to the "A" map and then up or down the boost till you hit your targeted boost level and remember hit both buttons 2 times to save...it will say run and then you can hit the gas again and see where the boost got to that time.
At this point it will only spike the targeted boost level and then fall off quickly....you must now tune the wastegate crack setting.
Hit both buttons an hold for 5 then do it again to get into the main menu...hit both buttons till you find the spr/gae setting it should be at 1.0.....hit the left or right buttons to raise or lower it by 1 psi at a time untill you get it to spike and hold your targeted boost setting....sometimes when going in 1 psi intervals it will boost creap above the targeted level....back it down in .1 psi till it spikes and hold the level you want....and remember always after adjusting the crack setting hit both buttons untill the screen says run and that setting will save...
Run the car till you get it right....once everything checks out fine let the car idle for a minute and then turn the car off to save the settings( per aem's instructions but i dont see why it is necessary).
I will get pics up if needed but i think everything is pretty easy....have fun and happy tuning
