How often are you all changing the trans fluid?
Supposedly the owners manual says that these cars do not need to have the trans fluid changes in them. Many others manuals do too but I have noticed that they shift a lot better when changing it. Anways how often are you all chaging the fluid on your cars? I have yet to do and have been thinking of doing so
It is easy to change and cant hurt unless u put the wrong fluid in. takes all of 30 mins maybe and hour if u have a hard time. I changed mine at 50k and it still looked good and didnt smell bad.
jack up the front, remove left wheel for ease of access. on the transmission, you'll see 2 hex bolts, remove the lower one and catch the fluid. to accelerate the draining process, lower the driver side a bit while keeping the passenger side jacked up, will help fluild come out and drip drain faster. i don't quite remember the size allen keys i used, i have a bucket of em unlabeled lol.
put the lower bolt back in, removing the metal particles from the magnet. i didn't have much, thank god... cuz that's your gears and syncros
use high heat thread sealant on the bolts. now remove the upper bolt and figure out how to get the fluid in. preferably some hose that is smaller than 3/8" Outside Diamater to fit it in the upper hole. drop it down from your engine compartment to the 'fill hole' and rig a funnel to the top of the hose. pour in 1.6 Liters of fluid whether it be redline 75w90ns http://store.summitracing.com/partde...part=RED-58304 or gm's fluid, part# 21018899.
EDIT: i put ounces instead of Liters, typo sorry. wow that would have been bad... and for the fluid change interval, i checked alldata and it really doesn't give you a change interval, interesting. though i only checked the bigger change interval miles (30, 50, 75, 100 120 and 150k)
the hose thing i thought of now beats what i did when it started to rain and i had no time to get hose... i used a turkey baster and kept sucking up new fluid and pumping it in, took about 15 minutes but it worked. it's an awkward angle to use a funnel when your in the wheel well, you'll see when you do it.
rejack the driver side so the front end is equal. keep filling until it spills out the fill hole, an indication that it is as full as GM wants it to be. use high heat thread sealant again on the upper bolt, put wheel back on and enjoy.
as a side note, the redline synthetic fluid significantly reduced gear whine, which to me is a sign of better lubrication. use what suits you best, every1 has their own recommendations, but i used Red Line Synthetic 75w90NS gl-5 rated fluid. i'd recommend it.

hint / tip: chalk it up to you just never know
remove (or at least loosen) the fill bolt before you remove the drain bolt. It would suck to drain all the fluid out and when you went to fill it you stripped out the fill bolt.

x918209 this guy just had one of the smartest ideas ive heard in a long time.
I may wait longer than the 50K that you did if you say that yours still looked good. Maybe 60 or 70K then
Blew my first clutch (stock) at the track, replaced it with an exedy, and the brand new slave cylinder was bad, and was leaking, when I changed that, I had to change the fluid as well.
Then I wheel hopped horribly on a bad launch at the track this year, and cracked the transmission housing. So all the fluid leaked out, and had to be replaced when I put in the new transmission.
