blower porting info

so my blower recently started making noise, pretty sure its just bearings. im swapping another one on and going to rebuild the old one. i figure while im rebuilding it ill port it. i know there isnt much gain, but why not, free mod essentially.

does anyone have some good reliable info on porting this blower??? i did some searching and didnt come up with any solid info. pics would be nice as well.

ok...well, dont port the two slits on the sides. Those are there to make the whine quieter. Eaton states that porting them further reduces blower efficiency. the V part is the part needing the porting. Most of your porting should be done at the bottom of the V (the part farthest from the silencer ports). The only part i dont have a 'for sure' answer on is how much to port.

I believe you take about 1/8 inch of the material off from the edges. But i may be wrong so id get a second opinion

1/8 wouldn't do jack.

Sharkey, I just went at mine with a carbide bit and opened it up a bit. I might have a pic in my gallery or you can just pm me email and I'll send you one.

Just FYI, Eaton has said that the intake of the blower can be ported for a small gain but the outlet as described above should not be ported.
This information is everywhere on the site if you search for m62 porting.

X3

Maybe a slight smoothing of the edges on the outlet will help, but if you port it much you will hurt performance instead of helping. Port the inlet to your hearts content though.

Reasoning:

The V in the outlet is designed to allow for the best compression of the air going into the intake manifold. When you port the outlet you are allowing more air to escape into the intake before it has been compressed to its optimal point. Isn't the entire point of a SC to compress the air as much as possible?

Sounds good but the M62 is not a twin screw. It does not compress the air just moves the air.

the main gain is heat. I basically copied euthanasia's port job to the best of my ability minus the plugging and then I just smoothed out the inlet.

by heat I mean less heat

I will be doing this pretty soon. Along with a much better port/polish job of the inlet and inside of the blower.

I got an email from the guys at Stiegemeier.com and he told me with their port/polish you stand to gain at least 15 horsepower. I have the email if you guys need to see it.
