maaco paint?
maaco paint?
ok so i waant to know why maaco is so bad. I know the quality wont be as good but heres my situation. I have roughly $1200 and no job, and ive got some custome fiberglass fenders. Maaco will paint and mount and mold my fenders for 481. The custom shops around here are 1K and up meaning i wont have a dime until i find another job and with my grandpa passing away im not in the mood to go job hunting for a while. I want to see proof or something as to show me that maacos quality sucks. I talked to them and 5 otherr shops, maaco sounded just as good as the others, and everyone says dont go there and when i ask why everyones answer is "you pay for what you get" well this is not always true. It sounds like ppl just say what theyve herd, would i be safe getting fenders p[ainted by maaco, they dont even have to match paint its just black... i dont see what they could do wrong, they are sanding, priming and clearcoating... and im guessing they warrenty their work
please give me some input and dont Bs plz, this is important i could be saving alot of money so only respond if you know what your talking about, or say your not sure if your not

Hey a budy of mine used maco and said that they werent that bad.
In fact the guys are very good painters and they use heated paint booths.
But they use **** paint so it would be best if you gave them the paint for your car other than that they are great.
But bear in mind this is hearsay from my friend so i guess that would make it third person advice haha well good luck thoe.

its just black paint so im not worried about the paint quality, as long as it goes on even its fine, if it were metallic or candy coat i would not go here, but its just plain black
my friend got his truck painted. i thought it came out pretty shady. and considering that your doing this to a brand new car i would do it right and get it done by a well known company . but the ***** in your court. i just wouldnt wanna see you be disapointed of the outcome. why spend 481 then another 1000 when u have to get it redone if it doesnt come out great?

plus its not like their painting a section of something on my car, like their not patching my trunk lid oles and then trying to bled the paint, their painting something that is completly un prepped, so results should be easier to be better

A guy i work with got his truck painted there, and its been back 5 times for retouching and his magic color was: BLACK. Remember black shows everything, and it comes down to preparation of the parts, any flaws will be magnified in the paint and that is what they are imfamous for is lack of proper preping. The accuracy of mixing the correct black, black is never just black get the right paint code from the sticker in your trunk. Call your chevy dealer and ask 'em what they would charge to do it, or atleast to paint it. I would rather pay a little extra now then have to take it back 5 times to get it right. Once you get it done, no matter where at, take it out in BRIGHT daylight and look it over inch by inch b/c it may look good inside but outside be completly diff. Just my thoughts are w/ some things you do get what you pay for. Go online and look at the price of good automotive paint, then factor in hrs of prep time, plus primer, painting, paying the painter, cost of equipment, and a little profit for the shop and figure out if 480 is really worth the headache.

My friend had her civic painted at maaco because it was cheaper and she could afford it. She ended up getting little bugs painted into her paint all over her car. The back hatch looked dull, like they didnt clear coat it properly and they had to cut out some rust on the front right fender, and weld a new piece of metal in.. i guess they didn't secure the fender properly, so when I went to open the passenger door, it bent the fender in.
Personally, I would never use maaco for witnessing this first hand, but shops are different, and not everybody that goes to maaco would have had a terrible experience, if they did, they wouldn't have hundereds of locations all over North America.
On another note; based on your situation, I'd say wait till you get a job, then worry about getting the fenders done, that way you can take it to a place you feel totally comfortable with.

They do a very cheap paint job....ergo....cheap price....if you dont like it when they are done are you gonna have them do another cheap job? who knows you make like it when they are done....down the line the paint will flake, chip, peel, then your stuck getting it done at a quality place anyways.....bad/cheap paint will never touch my Cobalt....but thats just my opinion....

If I were you I would look for a job and wait till my finances were more stable before doing any mods to the car. I know it is tough after loosing a family member, but unfortunatly to the rest of the world that doesn't matter. Your bills still need to be paid, your car still needs gas, and you need to work to foot the bills. You have my sympathy, but part of growing up is having to push through good times and bad. I wish it didn't work that way.
