Question First Time At The Track....any Advice Would Be Appreciated

so i went out to englishtown today and was disappointed with my times. i thought i was gonna get a lot better!! either way, i only got to run twice and ill tell my story for both

1st run: lined up w/ an 06 mustang v6, engaged at like 800rpm lol...from idle, and took it all the way through...bad start, but i still beat him by a full second
heres what i came out with:
RUN#1
R/T... .734
60'... 2.591
330... 6.618
1/8... 9.850
MPH... 75.72
1000... 12.647
1/4... 14.990
MPH... 96.87

2nd run: this time i decided i was gonna pop it at 2grand, but the second i line up, the lights started going...i look at my rpm bringing it to 2000rpm and i see the lights goin down quickly so i gave too much gas, and popped it at like 3000 or 3500....burnt out, let off completely, and punched it again shifted to 2nd, and totaly missed 3rd and continued through the rest....i was pissed with a lousy performance, since i know im more than capable of a lot better BUT...here are my times with that shitty performance
RUN#2
R/T... .857
60'... 2.421
330... 6.406
1/8... 9.734
MPH... 72.59
1000... 12.622
1/4... 15.016
MPH... 94.97

Now someone has got to tell me, are those times even considered decent for my FIRST TIME EVER AT THE TRACK??? ive never even been there to watch, havent even watched it on tv. came there and was only allowed 2 runs since some guy crashed and it took forever to clean up.

Very sorry for such a long post, but i had to do it, you guys AND GIRLS, are very helpful on this site, and this has been bugging me since i left there

FYI, i dont think im running full boost, guage is at about 10psi 11MAX is that normal for any of you?

Ok, first off. Your times are better than my all time best with stage 2! I know I suck at driving and 6800 ft kills ET's.

You might want to work on that response time. Go on the third yelow light not the green and roll out of the hole. Maybe even deap stage.

Anyway, looks ok for your first time ever.

Reaction Time has no Effect on you ET.

Here is my Advice....

You dont want to leave the line spinning in our cars... a good chirp is about perfect.
you want to roll off the line slipping the clutch and rolling on the gas untill you feel you have enough traction to go WOT. Then Shift to second as fast as you can. But dont powershift, (keeping gas floored while shifting) becuase our clutches ont like that. Then brace your arm on the shifter so that when its time to shift to third, you can just use one quick explosion of movement to shift from second to third very quickly. and then finish the run in 3rd gear.

You did pretty good actually for your first time out. I have noticed that the average 60 foot time in our cars on stock tires is around 2.3 seconds and you did 2.4 so thats not too bad.

Biggest thing is... dont worry about the car next to you, dont worry about the lights. concentrate on how you are leaving the line.... once you get that down... you can concentrate more on the lights and getting ur reaction time down.

2.5 60ft is your problem. That is an ok time. You could get it down to 2.0 or 2.1 with practice on street tires.

thanks guys, im feelin the advice and ready to go back and practice....see the reason im so mad about the whole situation, is because i know im capable of alot better....im a good shifter so i have no problems there unless i miss a gear which doesnt happen OFTEN. and if i had more time b4 the lights moved i would be able to rev to 2 grand like i wanted...i think with a combo of the two i can get an easy 2.7 and maybe even better
whats the BEST times people got WITHOUT LSD, and COMPLETELY STOCK?? my goal is to match that...i kno i can with some practice

WTF are you talking about!?!? 2.0 60' is like impossible stock!!! At least where I race, I could only muster a 2.2 60' and that was just about at the traction limit of the track that night. Mabey when it's better prepped but usually we can only get a low 2.3 60' before we break the tires loose and they turn into the usually bouncy *****. I'm going to the track tomarrow for the first time with my ingalls etd, I'll see what I can do.

14.99 is better than my first time out, I got a 15.18 my first time, then a week later I got a 14.87. Just takes prectice, but pretty damn good performance for the first time!
