Stage 2 HP gains per GM Facts over Fiction
Stage 2 HP gains per GM Facts over Fiction
HERE IS WHAT MY GM ENGINEER said about stage kits and HP
Ken-
I was able to get some quick feedback from one of our guys in GM's High Performance Vehicle Operations. They've heard from other customers who are seeing 226 whp with the Stage2 kit. Your 224 whp at a standard conversion of 85% mechanical efficiency through the transaxle comes out to 263 hp at the fly wheel. Our Stage 2 kit is advertised to produce 241 fly wheel or brake hp at the engine.
Most of the 'next steps' for you would void your warranty and/or be "off-road use only." We have an exhaust-ported head that we will release in the near future. Other parts might include Comp Cams camshafts and PSI or Bates valve springs. You could also consider adding an ice bath to the intercooler. GM is working on an Off-road Stage 3 kit with a smaller pulley, a 100 octane calibration, and a 2-pass intercooler, but none have been approved for sale at this time.
Also, if you do end-up getting close to 300hp, I want to make sure you know that your production pistons/pins will be marginal at that point. When you get there, you'll want to consider upgrading to an aftermarket (such as J.E. or Diamond) piston.
Best,
Ken-

yeah the dude that does media relations for gm emailed me a while back and said there were plans for a stage 2+ but he didn't mention a stage 3 at all
Yup, S3 is comin. That doublepass heat exchanger is really gonna help some of the Intense kit guys. I know with the 2.5 and 2.6 theyre running pretty high intake temps. Ice box would be really nice of someone designed and sold one.

When I was talking about we have two passes already I was talking about the intake manifold itself is two passes. this is where gm came up with a possible way to increase cooling of the air after putting on the 2 core (2 pass) Radiator they attempted to increase cooling of the air in the manifold by fabricating two passes in to three passes. It did not work that well.
Off topic question to slacker,
I have a gmpp stage 2 in my car, i was wondering if you would recoommend the gmpp manifold and catback? or would you go with something like the ZZP headers and magnaflow catback?

I went back and got a 14.2! now even more amazing I learned more on the shift points with stage 2 (it is different than running the car stock) and I got 13.9!! so regardless of DYNO machine. the seat of your pants will find a difference and no matter how good or bad you are at the track you will go faster than before. If you learn to drive better after GMS2 you could take .8 of your 1/4 mile time like I did. Oh and by the way it all came down to technique for launch and shift points. I shift just as quick as the next guy.

I have about the same modds as you, but i dont ever go to the track. So i have experimented with diff launching methods... If u drop the clutch with alot of gas it wheel hops= slow. I though dropping the clutch at around 2500rpm and moderately pressing on the gass till full throttle and shifting when the tach hit about 6600rmp gave me best results. Well felt the best anyways. Can u tell me your secrets since you get to take your car to the track, unfortunatly there isnt one close to my house. Thanx bro
