My first issue with my Cobalt...

Ok after 5,500+ miles, I finally got a problem.

For some time now, when I put my car in park and I want to turn the car off. The key gets stuck in the ignition (in the ACC part)

I did some research, and suposedly GM put some safety device in place. The car must me in park (fully) or else the car will not allow the key to be removed.

So for some time, I have been forcing the car in park.... as in its in park and i push the shifter up a bit more.

Anyways, I would like some input, what do you think it is. The ignition or the shifter boot to the trans?

I have done that but to no luck.

Oh well, the car is due for an oil change. They'll hopefully fix it.

All cars have that feature, when you have the car in any other gear than park, the key won`t come out. It might be the igntion cylinder/lock itself , or something in the lever. Definately not the boot though. For sure it will be covered under warranty.

Ok just came back from the dealership. They replaced the entire shifter assembly. It was the release switch that screwed up.

Its fixed, I'm happy. But, there arises another problem, when service was done. The CEL came on.

Thats going to be looked at tomorrow.

That sucks about the CEL, but maybe its just coincidence. Glad the shifter problem was resolved.

Really? Is that why after only 5,600 miles this is my first problem? Oh yeah thats alot of problems! Way to make an ass of yourself with an invalid point.

Ok my car came back from the dealership, got an oil change. They also changed the oil filter.

I dunno why they did this, from my invoice:

"SES LIGHT ON, NO PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. SEE FFS ATTAHCED CAUSE: PCM IMPROPERLY CALIBRATED. P2431 PRESENT."

"J6354 ENGINE CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAM. REPROGRAMED PCM WITH UPDATED CALIBRATIONS. PERFORMED FLOW CHART, FOUND SOFTWARE UPDATE 05-06-04-073."
