Good thing the wall is sleeved. Diamonds have a higher compression rate right? Be sure to retune once you install them. Was it the rings on the piston that failed then? The new pistions should be a nice boost in HP. Looks like new axles are going to be your next mod.

Look forward to the walkthrough.

Gonna have to pull the motor out more than likely and bring it to a machine shop to have the new one pressed in ... and since your going that far already... get the iron sleeves since the stocks are only good to 600 hp... (If your gonna shoot for more might as well do it once and do it right)

Definitely sounds like you broke a ring or land. You are going to have to pull the engine. The cylinder wall needs to be honed and measured. You have many options. You can re-sleeve it or just bore the stock one over. Most pistons come in .020 oversize.

How bad did the wall get scratched ? I would definately be in contact with a machine shop at this point . How much can a ecotec be bored ? I ask that because alot factory sleeves cant be bored too much at all . Like a LS1 factory sleeve is only safe to .010 overbore .

At least ya got Rob down there to guide ya in the right path too .

I think his point was they are going to cost about the same any way. Might as well put the best you can why you have the engine up. I mean, which would you rather have 450hp and walls that are rated at 600hp or 450hp and walls that are rated at 1000hp??

You dont have to pull the engine, providing the crank isnt damaged.
Dealers have a tool to replace the sleeve/liner IN CAR. Works great!

Can do 1/2!
It looks like this...
The first tool is used to remove and install the sleeve and the second fixture is a cutter that machines the sleeve to match the deck. There's a built-in debris vaccum and special inserts for the adjacent cylinders to minimize contamination.

Unless you plan on going over the alloted rating they would just be a waste of money. Now if there is like >$100 difference, I would go with the better ones, but if the cost difference is greater than that, I would save my money. That is unless there is something else better with them...

Sorry to hear about the failure, but that would defiantely explain the 0 compression.

GM once again showing its intelligence... Build a bitchin motor that can handle tons of power, and put pistons that might as well be made of wood Shame on you GM! Shame on you!

Now see, that's kindda cool. It really almost looks like a simple pulley puller. I'm surprised they can pull out and then push back in the sleeves with just that. I would have thought for sure they were press fit in there a lot tighter then what a just a puller would be able to move. Have you ever seen a engine where a liner slipped?

Wow thats cool. Find out where you can rent one of those. Save you a lot of money by not having to take it to a shop!
As far as how much it cost for better pistons.

I think those are the diamond pistons. I dont know where else to get them. But they are expensive. He can get a quote from the dealer for the stock ones.

Looks just like the one I use for pulling sleeves on diesels.
