Looking at a Cobalt SS(just wanted some owners opinions

Hows it going guys, I just wanted to get on here and get some opinions on the car. Right now, I have a Mazdaspeed6. Im in the application process for becoming a police officer and I will take a little pay cut(from the job I have now)while im in training I believe. Plus my wife and I wanna get a better house so Im looking at a car that doesnt cost my 500bucks a month, lol. I went to the dragstrip last weekend and raced with a couple cobalt ss's. I was very impressed with the relatively inexpensive cars. A guy was running consistent 14.4-14.5's bone stock. I was running 14.2-14.3's with an awd 274hp car. And the catch was that the guy in the redline and cobalt ss were consistently trapping higher than me, so I really dont think that this can be considered a downgrade. I love the looks and I really just underesimated these cars. I just wanted to get some opionions on how they are holding up and does the aftermarket have a bunch of stuff for these cars?(im a very addictive modder) thanks and any info would be appreciated.

I love my Cobalt and have never had any problems with it. Go for it. As for after market it is much better than when I bought mine, and getting better everyday.

Good luck with the application.

i just got mine and i dont think ive had it for even a week yet but i like it. i am more impressed than i thought i would be. but i also didnt downgrade. but look at it this way. its a $20k car that has potential. its not like ur buying a gay civic or some commuter car.

Great car. I have put almost 3K miles on mine and haven't had it for 2 months yet. The aftermarket is there and continues to grow. Just be sure you do some searches on what you want to mod and be smart about the upgrades. These cars are very sharp, get alot of attention, are highly underestimated, fairly cheap for what you're getting, and have some decent potential. Good luck.

Beware for over-obsession of your cobalt will reflect in your love life

I've been single for 17 months, almost literally to the day I got my balt

Yeah, I definitely would say that they are underestimated. I had no Idea that they could pull 14.2's stock. Im gonna go look at one this weekend. Its red with black and red leather with 4k miles on it for 15k. Freaking cheap. I bought my MS6 for 22k when the 06's had deep rebates, now that they dont, kbb.com say trade in is around 24k so I should be able to come out great. And save a bunch of money off of my monthly payments. One thing that I hate about this mazda is that they cost of aftermarket stuff is unbelievable. I just got my money refunded after thinking about how much I just spent on a Metallic core catted downpipe, 659.00. Thats rediculous.

I'd keep the Mazdaspeed if it was possible. They're definately a lot nicer ride than the SS in my opinion. But if you must the SS is a good car. Keep it fairly stock, and it'll drive like a dream.

Me and the service manager at Marathon Chevy have a mutual hatred towards each other needless to say. The only guy I'll talk to sits behind the parts counter, and hooks me up all the time. He is a motorhead as well, so he understands what I was going through. I drove to the dealerhship to talk with the parts guy I know, and this is the brief conversation with the service manager:

Him: I see you had your car fixed.
Me: I fixed it myself thank you very much.
Him: Oh, so what was the problem?
Me: It was the damn headgasket like I told you it was!
Him: Well, I glad to hear you got it fixed and it's running good
Me: I just walked away and ingored him at that point considering my warranty was voided by this *****!

The ****** always tells the GM reps how I do all sorts of bad things to my car, and even had the audacity to tell me "The car was meant to be driven nicely and to look cool in, not to get on it every once in awhile and stuff like that."

Sorry to invade the thread by the way.

bdwarr6, want to hook me up? I think I may need new shifter linkages when I return from this deployment.

glad to see I'm not the only one who's g/f bitches about the car...she drives an LS sedan and always gives me **** because all I talk about is my car...great car though, I've had a few problems but nothing the warranty couldn't fix...plus the greatness of the car outweighs the problems every time

I'd say go for it. Trust me you will love the car. And the looks it gets?, Jeez, I've never gotten so many. I call it my econo pocket rocket. Can run low 14's at the track and still get 32 MPG on the hywy.

Yeah, I went and drove one today. Its not nearly as torquey as my mazdaspeed, but I like the smooth power. I didnt realize the one I drove was 24k, damn, that more than I paid for the ms6. My big thing was could I fit into it. Im 6'3 and 230lbs. My wife is small and she had a cavalier ss and the seat wouldnt go far enough back. I was very surprised when I fit like a glove in the car, even with the recaro seats. I liked the factory sub too, nice touch. All in all, I like the little car and I will most likely have one in my possesion sooner than later. Im gonna keep coming to the forum and bothering you guys so I can learn about this car just like I did my ms6. Bye bye high payment, hello more money in my pocket
