Unhappy HELP: Want an SS/SC BADLY!

I want a Cobalt SS/SC very badly. So bad, I can sometimes hear the whine of the supercharger in my random thoughts.

I just want some advice since my current Cobalt is the first brand new car I have purchased ever. I purchased it in July of 2005 for about $16,000 and put about $5,000 down. I took financing for 7 years (bad I know, but only way I could afford at the time). With my current job, I can now afford an SS/SC. That pisses me off that I got new job after I purchased my current 'balt where I can afford an SS/SC now. Obviously, I have been paying for about 17 months now at about $220-230 a month. (All my money figures are rough estimates since I have no time to look anything up right now. When the bills come, I just pay them.)

I would just like some advice on how to trade in my current 'balt for an SS/SC without losing my ass!

I love my Cobalt and am very proud of how well I am doing in autocross with it, but it is not what I really wanted. If anything, I would at least have tried to get a manual. Dealership didn't have a manual with the options I wanted at the time and I did not have time to wait since I totalled my previous car.

Please help!

go to kbb.com and get a estimate on you car on how much you are expecting to get print that out and go to the dealer dont tell them you have a car to trade, dont pay the msrp try to get the price down to like 1500 down once you are happy with the price tell them about your trade in, dont buy any extras like paint protection s#&@!!!

you can even go to the chevrolet webside and use their calculator to estimate your payments thet way you are not waisting your time

That is true, but I don't think I can negotiate GM discount. Kinda sucks, but discount is still nice.

Think it is reasonable to trade a car in after only about 1.5 years?

lots of people do it, the issue you will run into though is the payments to loan payoff. if you have only paid mostly interest your principal payments likely haven't touched your car all that much. the trade in value may not be what you want so be expecting to take a slight hit on that. simply because of the nature of the car I would try and find something new or within 12000 miles of used mileage. a lot can happen to a car in a day not to mention in a year so going that far out on a used version might be bad cus these cars weren't exactly made for walking

Traded in new cars? Do you get railed in payments or money still owed on vehicles?

My KBB value is $11,325.

if you do trade your car dont even think on trading your car again for the next 4 or five years IMO bc is very easy getting a loan but think of how long is to payoff

you such wait till the turbo ss (if there is one) or might as well go with a different car since you do autox there is more out there you will be suprise

You will lose money if you trade it now. Is that $11K trade in value, cause thats what your gona get, not private party value.

Buying it is good for long term.

If you make more money now, pay more on your loan and cut some years off of it.

No its not resonable to trade after only 1.5 years, most value is lost in the first few months. If you wanted an ss/sc, you should have waited. You should not have bought a car you were not happy with.

Keep the car and pay down the loan. Think of the future!!!

You could also think of it this way
"If I lose my job for like 5 months, will I lose the car?"

And if you don't know how much you payment is, maybe you can't afford an ss/sc
Mine is $173.03, I didn't have to look it up, and I have always paid more than that.

Yeah, I will try and be more patient. Not something I am very good at when it is something I want. I will be able to save up to $3600/year for the downpayment on my next car plus my car as trade in. So, waiting will actually enable me to get cheaper payments on my next car!

My car payment is automatically deducted from my bank account, so maybe I should change that so I can pay over what the required payment is.

Do you need a car like this? No, nobody NEEDS a car like this.

Do you want a car like this? YES, YES, YES! With every bone in my body!

Great choice. The more you save now the less it will cost later. $25 a month more should cut atleast 1 year of it. And after you get that raise, you can save even more!

If you save for like 2 years, you should have $7K for down payment and like $6K for the car minus what loan is left, only have a loan of like $12K.

If you keep along this path you may be able to someday buy a car with cash, how great would that be!!!

And I want a Corvette, but there is no way I could afford that. But, I am happy with my balt. I will have a Corvette, someday...

Ever watch "Dream Car Garage"? They would say this at the end of every test drive of a car:

Do you need a car like this? No, nobody NEEDS a car like this.
Do you want a car like this? YES, YES, YES! With every bone in my body!

The answers to the questions were not always the same, but the message was!

Maybe I will concentrate on winning more autocrosses with my current Cobalt

She seems to be doing VERY well in that area for sure

I love that show and the fat bald guy is my hero. Someday I will probably be a fat bald guy and I hope I'm as cool as him.

Anyway, Whatever you decide good luck to you. It's typically not wise to trade a car in so quick but if you really think you need an SS/SC then I say try and sell your car outright for what you have left to pay on it or more. You will most likely get more from a private party sale then from a trade in. It's an idea to consider that may help you get an SS/SC. If you don't go that route then I just say try your best to make the car you have into something you would enjoy more. Good Luck and have fun autocrossing!

You could shop around for a little while until you find a SS/SC for a good price. I know you want one brand new but I found mine at a good price used. I got a 2005 SS/SC back in august with 5k miles on it and got it for $16,000.
