GMPP Intake ... If installed by dealer, does it still void warranty?

I went down to my dealer today, and took a look at the Accessories for the Cobalt. I was looking at the Intake and it says they install it too. Does this mean that if you get it installed from the dealer that your warranty is still valid? If so, does anyone know how much they charge to install it, because it didn't even give a price, just a number like .1 or something like that.

your warranty will still be valid. and you should ask the dealer you purchase it from incase there ******** about modifications. ....aside paying gm to install an intake might end up a mistake....its very easily done...

Having Gm install a GM performance parts intake on your car garuntees there will be no warrantly issues.

Ok good. Just want to hear that purr in the engine ... miss that sound from my old car. Does anyone know how much HP I'd gain from it?

So yeah, I just emailed the dealership and I should get an email back from them tomorrow if they aren't TOO lazy. If everything checks out ok, and the warranty is still valid after install, I will be scheduling an appointment to get my new Performance Air Intake installed. Should add a nice purr under the hood, and a couple extra HP!

This is one of the most worried about topics on the site.

A couple of things....

GM Racing parts are NOT warrantied
GM Performance Parts are USUALLY not warrantied
GM Accessories usually ARE

Three different thing.

For instance, the GMPP Stage kits are warrantied, so they are an exception.

No aftermarket part, intakes included, will void a warranty. If something did break, the dealer would have to prove that the aftermarket part was directly responsible for the damage. No intake is going to cause that.

You DON"T have to have the dealer install your intake (GM or otherwise) to keep your warranty. In fact, you SHOULD do it yourself. An intake is an easy installation, and it can be fun working on your own car. If you are nervous, get an experienced buddy to help you. You won't screw anything up.

NO intake voids the warrenty... people just don't know how to convey that to the dealer that hates to do warrenty work and looks for reasons to not have to do it...

GMPP parts have a warranty -- it is in the GM accessory books. I've written about this in other threads.

Dealer installs -- car's warranty balance applies.
You install it -- Cars warranty is not affected, GMPP part only warranted for one year

It's simple....put the stock equipment in a closet. If something goes wrong put it back on before you take it to get looked at.

If you personally install the intake, it only comes with a 1 year warranty. If GM installs the intake, its covered under then remainder of your factory powertrain warranty

See, that's what I wanted to know. People were saying all different things, and I thought this was the case which is why I was asking about dealer install. I def. think getting it installed by the dealer is the way to go, because then you don't have to worry about them dicking you over and giving you a hard time because they installed it. Also, it's added to your cars warranty. I'm just waiting to find out how much it is to have them install it.

enough to make it not worth the warrenty... i don't see what people think is going to happen to the intake... the rest of the car is still covered under warranty, just not the damn intake... it's a piece of metal... what can possible go wrong with it? exactly, nothing... save a few hundred dollars and put it on yourself.
