IDEAS? I scratched the hell out of my rear skirt!

Hey Everyone,
Damn am I pissed.. I was backing out of the driveway and ran the side of the rear skirt against a rock...

Now I am very lucky there is no denting just some pretty ugly white scratches. Please see the picture attached, it shows where the scratches are exactly. My car is a laser blue 2006 SS/SC. Does anyone know the best route to getting this fixed? Is it possible to sand these grooves out of the skirt and paint it with touch-up paint? Or does someone have a better idea?

The scratches are about 2.5" wide and there is about 5 of them. There is no cracking or denting of the skirt/sheetmetal, appears the car is fine except for these grooved scratches. They are probably only a 1/16" deep.

Thanks for all your suggestions,
Ryan

well i would say to go out to your dealer and get some tough up paint form them or go to a local dupont or paint store and have them mix the paint for you that matches your car and put it in a spray can and also get a can of clear. dont worry it will be the real paint just a way for you to spray it. and before you do that get some wax and grease remover and wipe the area off. nice and good. then get some real small grit sand paper and wet sand the area smooth. then go ahead and spray the area with a couple coats of paint then a couple of clear and allow time to dry between each it should say how long it let it last.

So not touch it up. You will not be happy with the end result. I manage a paint and body shop so please heed my advice. The advice that everyone else is giving is based on what they think they know.

(1) Touch up paint is basically nail polish. It is not the same material that is sprayed on your car.

(2) There is no such thing as "chevy" paint or "honda" paint or anything like that. Auto manufacturers use paint from a paint manufacturer such as Dupont, PPG, Nason, Sikkens, Spies Hecker etc.

(3) When you touch up a color that has a metallic flake to it, it does not allow the flakes to spread evenly. In the end you will have a blue scratch instead of a white one.

If you want it to look like it did before, take it to a paint and body shope and have them paint it. Do it right or do not do it at all. It is not worth the time and effort to half ass it. Depending on what materials the shop uses and what there labor rates are the cost would range between $180-$250. I know that it is a lot of money to fix a scratch, but it is worth it. PLease please please. Do it right or don't do it at all.

I know that this is off subject, but the car in that picture is my actual car. I let my buddy at tire rack use it for a photo shoot. I can tell because of the smoked rear signal marker, and the sunglasses holder on the visor.

i'd try buffing it out with wax and a buffer first ( depending on how deep the scratches are) and then take it from there....
