Different Tire Sizes?

hey everyone, is it alright to have different tire sizes? say like 215/35/18 's in the front and 225/40/18's in the back?? does it make a difference at all? or should i go the other way around with the 225's in the front and 215's in the back?

You would be better off either keeping the same size all around, or if you want to stagger, put the wider ones in the front, since those are your drive wheels.

If your car has Anti Lock Brakes, your brake distances will be significantly longer. That is the only real problem, that is, unless your car is awd or 4x4.

We are tought this at work. I wasn't told exactly what happens, but this is what I determined.

Its not that it is bigger tires, it is that the front and back are different. The computer thinks they are still the same, and pulsates at the same speed for both front and back. One is pulsing different from the other, too fast of pulses and the tires do a basic slide, too slow, and your pads don't grip enough, not slowing you down as much. The brake distance difference is maybe 5-10 feet in this case. Nothing major, but enough to make a difference when you have to stop quick.

can you explain why you want to put wider tires in the back , wider tires take longer to stop because they are heavier put wider tires in the front not the back
