New problem with the Cobalts!!!
New problem with the Cobalts!!!
Atleast it was new to me. I did a search on here and nothing came up. So......
My car started pulling timing like crazy which I posted in one of the other threads. I thought that it was just because I missed a shift, but I took it back into my tuner and he reflashed it but then it happened again the next day. So I was like WTF mate!?!?
So I took it back to my tuner again and we put it on the dyno, hooked everything up and watched. Reflashed the ECU and did 3 pulls.
1st pull engine temp was 160 or so. came out with 271hp
2nd pull engine temp was 180-185. came out to 268hp
3rd pull engine temp jumped to 195, IAT's went through the roof, ECU pulled timing came out to 223hp!!!!!
So we figure it has to be a problem with the heat exchanger. he hooked up a clear line where it connects to the resevor and we turned on the engine to see if it was puming coolant at all.
Nope!!! The pump was out on the heat exchanger.
The surprising thing is that I only have 19k on the car!!!!
So now I have to take it into the dealer on Friday to get it replaced.
The first service tech I spoke to tried to put it off that it was the mods that caused the failure. I told him sarcastically "Yeah, My exhaust will probably take out my water pump too!" He walked off not too happy. But the main Service guy said that it would be covered and not to worry.

Hmm... make sure the pump isn't wired backwards.
A lot of the Redlines have their intercooler pumps wired backwards (negative going into positive). 3 of the Redlines in the DSLSJA have had this problem so far.
When you turn the car on, you should see the fluid "agitating" in the little resivoir neck. Also, if you pinch one side of the tubing going into the neck with your fingers. the fluid level in the neck should rise.
Go onto (gasp) redlineforums and look for the thread on intercooler wired backwards. I haven't seen the problem on any Cobalts yet... but it's not out of the question.

Yeah, I just thought I'd post it up incase anyone else has a "ghost" in their balt that robs power after about 2 or 3 runs. Its probably the H/E pump.
I mean, I am running a custom tune, but I would guess that the factory tune will pull timing if it sees the IAT's go through the roof, not to mention you're just pushing hotter air so you will automatically lose power.
