Is a cobalt SS 2.4 Auto good
Hell yeah. but I'm biased.
.005$ has good questions. What do you mean by good?
Good as in economical, easy to drive, reliable, sporty, quick car. Yes.
Good as in ***** to the wall, seat of your pants, racing car. not really.

if ur looking for something that has a growing aftermarket, growing support, nice looks, decent fuel economy/power. then its good.
if you are looking for something like the ss/sc, then you are looking at the wrong model.
for me, it was good cuz i am getting the good looks, decent mileage and some pep that the cobalt ss/sc brings, but without all the power/manual trans and extra insurance.
it really is just personal preference.

Mostly what im going to use it for is like a work car and a travel car. Dont get me wrong I do not dirty up my vehicles I keep them clean. I will probaly mod it later on but i want something that gets good gas mileage and a little sporty. Like where they tested the top 10 fastest cars under 20k they said the auto sucks. I am 19 and i do not jerk my cars around because i know what happens when you do.
What else do you think I should do get one now or wait until 2008 models.

The auto makes the 5 speed look like a joke stock 4 stock except once you hit the auto's gov. at 120mph the 5 spd. may shine a being as it can do i believe 137mph
however if your looking for zippy acceleration go with the auto noone belives me and everyone will flame but my bestfriend has the 2.4l 5spd and we used to run all time when i was stock simply gear from L to I to D from a break start and I could pull about half a car lenght on him everytime ......
oOoOo but my personal favorite is 2 just unplug my Maf sensor before the race and its a freaking no brainer
I was pretty amazed when I found out myself but once I tried it I never looked at the 5 spd the same ......... and 4 a while i was sooooo pissed I didnt get the 5 spd. owell irony is a bitch hope this helped
if you have any second thoughts or just not 2 sure fly out 2 vegas you can drive my buddies car and will go at it stock 4 stock .....you cant deny what you see with your own eyes lol
hope this helps .

why?? is it because its the same tranny thats used to put power to the ground in V6 equipped vehicles hmmmmmmm
drag, proven, ownage......besides the hp difference between the 2 is a parasitic loss of less then 4 ponies
oh ya and not to mention the gear ratio is shorter on the auto whcih would explain why the hell I can own my buddies 5 spd. hmm I love the the 4spd auto tranny you can granade the **** out of it and it still runs strong ...hows your clutch doin
???

from talkin to some owners of the 2.4 in stick, they are not a fan of the tranny in it..gearin could be better from wut i hear. its the same tranny used in the 2.4 so i think gm shud of used a better tranny for the 2.4
I came from driving a stick Jeep Wrangler and I wanted a 5-speed Cobalt SS 2.4. Unfortunately, there weren't any more '06 manual SS Sedans left in my area and everyone I talked to said that for the sedan especially manuals are rare unless they're custom ordered. That being said, I really like the fact that I don't have to clutch constantly in traffic and I can just relax and enjoy the really nice ride of my Cobalt with my Auto tranny. My roommate has a manual Mazda Protege but my Cobalt is a lot peppier and more agile than his car (albeit the fact that it has about 30 less hp than the SS).
The manual tranny has a bit less power being sapped transferring HP from the engine to the wheels, A manual can force their car to downshift when going from a roll, Plus the extra gear comes in handy in that they have one extra choice.
From a dead stop though, as long as you know how to properly launch and force the shifts up in the auto tranny, It's going to be a pretty even match between the two. The advantage of extra power and gear from the manual is going to be pretty much negated by the fact that the auto won't mess up the shifting.
Throw in a shift kit or a better yet, a good tranny tune. And I would give the advantage to the auto transmission.
Not knocking you manual guys, For street racing a manual is going to be better almost every time. Going from a dig or at the track, GM's four speed tranny does the trick just fine.
Plus it's not a bitch to drive in heavy or slow moving traffic
PS. So far I've seen the BEST 1/4 times for the 2.4l SS from guys that have auto's and good tunes with all the bolt on's

i have a g5 gt auto. my car pulls hard as hell and my top speed was 130 but i was tupid going that fast. what i had heard is that stock 4 stock the auto will win. unless u hit 120+ mph but really when are u going that fast.
ps when i was going 130 i wasnt racing and it was 130 in the morning. put it this way im not doing that again.
