Smile Just bought a cobalt...Mods with warranty?

well thanks to massive rebates by chevrolet and a while of savings and generous parents I was able to buy a Cobalt today. Since it is my first car and have been just landscaping in the summer i could not afford the ss and could only go with the Lt with the sport cloth and not much else.

My question is will putting in any mod void the WHOLE warranty...or just the part being replaced....Like if i were to put in a new intake would if void just the intake warrenty or everything? What if i put in the Gm the Gm Performance air filter in it? would the warrenty remain?

Depending apon the answer i am contimplating putting in the Chevy Intake, Exhaust and exhaust manifold. Can I get these parts installed and purchased now...after I have purchased the car? Am i better off getting after market parts? I am also looking into window tints and such... will subtle things like this void the warrenty?

Thanks and I look forward to your answer and owning a cobalt

Only way something will void your warrenty is if the dealership can proove that the part you put on causse the problem intake wont but if you change your engine internals then of course exhasut intake or what ever should not ask your dealer first though cause delaers differ from state to state

Oh yeah sorry welcome and please feel free to rome around this great site

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the site. If you install an intake lets just say and something goes wrong then you will still have the warrenty as long as you putting an intake in did not cause the problem. BUt you also have to take into account 2 things it all depends on the dealer and also if you get a GM performance part installed by the dealer you are in the clear because it is covered under warrenty. O yea and i know that you are knew so you might want to search teh site a little b4 posting a question (just trying to prevent you from getting flamed ).

Welcome to the site. There is a bunch of info here. But to answer some of your questions. Yes GMPP items are covered under warranty, with the exception of stage 3 for the SS/SC. Different dealers will tell you different things. Yes you can get the parts now, but only if you have the cash for the stuff, some of it is pretty expensive. Check with Crate Engine Depot, they are a "Supporting Vendor" on the site with a bunch of GMPP stuff and they could answer more of your questions.

lol sorry about not searching first... on my way back to check on this i saw a sticky about it >.< lol sorry ill search next time

Soo say i do get an aftermarket part and i pay them to install it, even an airfilter, that would cover me then because they installed it correct? or is it the parts performance not the installation

if its a gmpp part and they install it you will be covered (at least that's how my dealer rolls)

if it's just install that's GM, then if the non-GM part itself causes damage, that damage is not covered unless YOU can prove it was installed badly causing the damage......nearly impossible

ok, thanks for clarifying and my final question then is how these gm parts hold up against the after market ones, i.e. the gm intake to an injen or k&n

also... how is the installation cost will i be paying around what i paid for say the exhaust in labor...cause im actually finding these gm parts relatively cheap...i thought gm might inflate price because of the warranty...i assume if i buy the gm part for it to keep warranty it must be gm installed

Well first of all i would install my cold air myself if i was you casue it dont matter who installs it it should not void your warrenty. Yeah gm parts are good but there are other i believe that better but that my opioin. As far as the labor goes it should be no more then 300 for a cat back exhaust install and that should be way more then what you should pay i paid like 150 for mine to be installed. all GM parts you buy for example cold air or exhaust are all considered aftermarket accessories casue it did not come with the car. But hope this helped you out some and keep us in touch when and what you decide to get......
