No boost in 1st gear

Hi guys , I've had my SS for 12 days now and I am loving the car. I haven't pushed it at all and I am getting 27.5-28 in mostly city driving. Well yesterday I finally got into it in 1st gear but the boost gauge didn't register boost much at all and it certainly never went to 10-12 and I nearly redlined it. Was wondering is it normal to not get full boost from supercharger in 1st gear cause in 2nd 3rd 4th 5th it shoots right up to full boost just like nothing. I have been babying this thing and don't launch hard in 1st gear or wheel hop it or anything. I suppose that's why I have just noticed the weird boost gauge 1st gear thing. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the responses guys

Appreciate you guys helping me understand that. I kinda figured with the traction issues and the immense power to the wheels that boost would be limited in 1st gear. Just wanted to make sure it was normal. Just posted my very first kill in the war stories section. It was a classic Honda VTEC. This Cobalt has all the performance I have ever wanted in a car plus 27 mpg city. Can't beat that in my opinion. Thanks again guys very much appreciated. Have a great day.

Wow, is something wrong with my car because in first is shoots its way right up to 15 pounds. I guess this could be why I am getting these 2.7 60' times(before mounts)? It pulls really hard in all gears and doesn't seem like anything is wrong.

Also, even when stock it would go up to 13 pounds in first.

ditto. RL hitting full boost in 1st no problem. I never heard of these cars having gear limited boost.

they usually do hit full boost in first, i like to limit it to control wheelspin.

thats the way it's supposed to be. IDK WTF these guys are talking about. before my re-tune, i was right @ 12psi in first @ WOT. and i test drove 5 others that were exactly the same way. (nice to work @ the dealer )
now that I'm tuned it's limited to 8psi in first, and 14psi from 2,000 to 4,200 in second. but if i don't floor it, obviously I'll make less boost.

stop giving people bad advice ( to those who don't know what theyre talking about. )
