Angry I'm pissed at my car for the first time.

So yesterday I'm leaving from work easing my way into the highway and all of a sudden my check engine light turned on. Seriously i'm pissed off. REALLY REALLY pissed off. I baby this bastard like no other. I change the oil every 3,000 miles along with the air filter and tire rotations. I never speed, or mistreat the car. The only time I've raced it was 2 months after I got it and it was one of my first post. The last time I took it to the track was 4 months ago. So my question is, has this happend to anyone else, and what was the cause? I don't have time to take it to the shop till monday so I need some opinions.

did you check to see what code its throwing? The check engine light doesn't always mean soemthing serious is wrong. It could be a cylinder misfire or something as simple as your gas cap not on correctly

go to advance auto or auto zone and have them read the code for you... it's free.

amazing.
utterly amazing.

it's giving me a CEL so i'm going to beat the **** out of it!
why?
get the thing checked... it's not a big deal. Was the car running any different? if it wasn't then it was something stupid like the gas cap not on correctly or the evap solenoid stuck. Sometimes, i just am in awe.

if it's running properly you most likely have nothing to worry about... no one can give you an opinion on what it is, because there's hundreds of codes that it could be. without knowing the code, there's nothing anyone can tell you.

I wasn't pissed because I want my car to be perfect. I was pissed because it's a little disappointing seeing a CEL go of for no apparent reason. Has nothing to do with the quality of the vehicle. Oh, and kicking the **** out of the car is a figure of speech. I think that would hurt me more than the car.

Sadly, thats the attitude of the majority of motorists out there. It's also one of the reasons why domestics get such a bad rep in the automotive industry.

wow it's a stupid CEL, not like it shut off or went into to limp mode.. as long as it's running fine what the hell is the problem.... as stated hit the onstar button, or go to autozone and get the code read for free... probably the gas cap ****, or a maf code./... which is just bullshit anyway

Ummm..........it might just be me or something....but I would rather have the CEL turn on then not at all.

Just relax and have it checked out. No big deal. It is probably something minor like the gas cap not on tightly.

Once again, I'm not talking **** about my cars brand. I meant that I pissed off that a CEL went off, and since I don't have time to go out to a shop or AutoZone till Monday I needed some advice or suggestions. About the only thing that the car does that is strange is that on some mornings when I turn it on the rpms stay stuck at around 900. That’s been happening since i got the car and I’ve taken it in to check it out. I don't know if it might be relative to the CEL or what.

Wow, this is a really horrible thread.

Would you rather you had a car that didn't have the ability to diagnose and warn you of potential issues before they happen?

Here, read this:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60160

Then, take a nap and relax, it's gonna be alright. Hell my CEL comes on for the trim system lean code and I have a stock induction!

Thanks, I really didn't take the time to search the site. My thread was kind of a rant slash asking for advice thread. I don't think anyone on here really understood what I was saying. No big-E

I don't think I've ever seen one (CEL) in my life. Must be sucky.

GM FTmfW considering I've owned 3 now in the past 5+ years.
