Is it really loud and scary sounding? If so I think I've heard it too. My solution was to never, ever, let it happen again so I changed my technique and haven't had it happen since.

this happens in my car. what my problem was if you get under the car look at the cross member where the lower A arms bolt up to it. you will see a 20 or 21 mm bolt and it goes through a bushing and the cross member. Tighten both sides up and problem solved. At least for me. Cant hurt to try it

^ well thats interesting

I tried to think of a way to explain it, but the best I could come up with is you need to not let the clutch out as fast, and not stomp the gas so hard going into 2nd. You'll probably end up slipping the clutch a bit, but I have a feeling its easier on our drivetrain than whatever that sound is!

Anyone consider that your engine is getting thrown forward and back and slamming into things? Kinda the reason you use mounts or torque dampeners, to remove the engine throw.

yea htats what it is, if you slam into gear fast enougha nd hit it just right, on stock mounts youll get a big pull and hear that sound. its everything shifting backward cause of the torque, i got solid motor mounts/tranny and havent happened since

That thump is your engine slamming into things. So bad for the car. It is good for the 1/4 though because it means your shifting fast and smooth. Get mounts or a torque dampener and the sound should go away, since they will keep your engine and tranny from getting thrown forward and back to slam into things.
