ok.. has anyone of you guys painted your calipers with gm paint or regular color matched paint? my uncle said it wont work if i use regular paint.. the first time i used duplicolor caliper paint but it wasnt the same color as the car. (yellow) and its starting to chip off and i want to redo it. any suggestions?

the first time i let it dry for the whole day.. it didnt chip for like at least a year so i got some time out of it. like i said, i dont want to do duplicolor again because that yellow is the chevy cavalier yellow so it doesnt match my car.

Must be high temp paint or it won't last long at all. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a color selection for matching the paint on our cars that will withstand the temps that our brakes will reach from driving.

This is how I would recomend doing it. Painting them while on the car just is not a good method. You can't get all the dust off and that really is what makes the paint chip off.

Obviously you need to be comfortable taking off the calipers but I am sure it will give a much longer lasting paint job. And yes you need to use paint that is designed to handle high heat, like a engine or caliper paint.

That's my How-To!

Anyway, as mentioned, you can not use regular paint. The surface of the brake has to be completely clean or the brake paint will just chip right off. That little can of brake cleaner that comes in the kit is a joke. You have to do some serious scrubbing. I chemically etched mine in Muratic acid.

ok i wanna bump this... what other color goes with yellow for painting my calipers? i have a yellow cobalt btw. i can only think of yellow and black.. but black is dumb lol.

edit: i just looked and i have about a half of can left of duplicolor caliper paint.. i still have some yellow paint left from when i got my spoiler painted.. do you guys think i can mix that in with the caliper paint or is it going to mess up the caliper paint?

First of all, a half a can is more then enough to do your calipers. Second, no, you can not mix those two paints.
