Do private repair shops have access to GM Tech 2 or is access limited to GM dealers?

 

Private shops would have either Tech 2 or a generic equivalent.

Would their Tech 2 or the generic equivalent have all the same functions as a dealer Tech 2? I ask because of the 2006 SAI issue which can be deleted via Tech 2 however most dealerships are unwilling to make such adjustments.

 

Most generics, only have the ability to clear and read codes.

I talked to a few guys in the shop about this, even the mastertech that has his own $4500 tester/programer, won't do some of the BCM and PCM functions the Tech2 does.

You can buy one for 2000 bucks, I used to have my own one, but I sold it when I left the field.

 

Yeah I looked into buying my own Tech 2, not worth it for the slight calibrationa djustment that I need. Thanks though. I'd imagine even a generic Tech 2 would have simple adjustments such as tire size though.

 

My shop has a GM Tech 2 which can fully reprogram any GM vehicle which is OBDII. So yes independent shops can too.
