Looking at buying an 07 Cobalt SS/SC

Hello all, I'm new to this site but not new to Cobalts. I have been looking at purchasing one extensively for a while now. Read a ton of reviews and test driven a few(not the SC version yet). I'm in the market for a newer car and there are a few SS/SC in my area that I was thinking of purchasing. My only concern is that they can't pass the emissions in 2008. If any of you SC owners out there know what it might cost to retrofit to pass federal emissions please let me know. The last thing I need is for the feds to say I can't drive my car in a year or two...

What is the upkeep on a SS/SC? It is anymore than a normal car? Have any of you had fatal problems? About how much would an after market sun roof cost?

On another note: where the hell can I find a stick Cobalt? I was also looking into an LT and I can't find a stick tranny anywhere... I have to order one from Chevy because there are no new ones in my area, and I didn't see many, if any, used ones. What is with these people....

Anyone have opinions on the LT version? How does it fare with other cars?

Thanks for any advice you all can give me!

welcome to the site! i am also a new member, but i can tell you that there are a lot of great people here who love to help each other out!

i have a 2007 cobalt ls, it is a 5 speed and that is basically the only good thing about it. most of the base model cars like mine are stick because the automatic trasmission is an expensive option. the lt model is one step up from the ls, it has many more options, such as power windows, power locks....etc also many of them have an automatic trans. All of the ss/sc cars are manual. I would die for an ss/sc, but can't afford one if you can afford an ss/sc, buy it, you will love it with a passion. if you have to settle for a base model cobalt like me, you may not mike your car one bit. hope i helped you out a little bit just test drive an ss/sc, you will see that the differences between that and a lt or ls are like night and day.

I presume he is an impostor that is against Cobalts. Which seems to be everyone outside this forum. I'm not sure why, the Cobalts are solid alternatives to the foreign cars.

They don't pass the 2008 emission laws, that's why 2007 is the last year they were produced. That said, if I had the money and could find a new one in my area I would ****** one up immediately. Plus, in 2009 the Cobalts will be redesigned and production moved to Mexico, which IMO makes the 2007 SS/SC the best Cobalt ever...

How much did you pay for your base LS tkosmen? I got a base LS with an automatic transmission for $13,900, $15,600 after taxes, window tinting, power windows and locks and a K-9 alarm system.

to answer your questions about emissions, your car goes by the emission laws for the year it was built, not the new law. so you will always pass emissions. when doing the tests, they enter in the computer some details about your car and the test is run off of those details, so don't worryabout it.

as far as comparing the lt to a ss/sc, it's not a comparison. i had an lt for 2 years, and it was a great car, never had any issues. but performance wise, which is the huge difference, it doesn't stack up.

i'd imagine there would be some kind of grandfather law it's not like thousands of cars won't be passed through emissions which have already been on the road for 2+ years.

I had an LS, and I now have an SS/SC. I've only had my SS/SC for a few months but I love the hell out of it!

The upkeep will be more on the SS/SC since it is at the high end of the 'balt spectrum. It takes 6.5 quarts of oil (and it has to be synthetic). Also, depending on how you drive, within a year and a half to two years, you'll be needing new tires.

I had to find a manual 'balt and tell my dealership about it, so that they could get it for me. It's hard to find a LS/LT in a manual.

Hope that helps you! Let me know if you need any more info.

Oh, and welcome to the site!

I thought the same about the emissions. I thought I would ask the the Chevy dealer told me I might not be able to drive it.

Unfortunately there are no new ones within 50 miles of me. But there are two with under 10K miles which are the ones I'm looking at.

To let you all know how badly I need a new car I have a 1996 Buick LeSabre... Even though it is in good condition it doesn't exactly scream young professional.

More like old man coming your way.

Not being from the states, I'm not certain about the emissions thing. but in Canada, the emissions laws that apply are the year that that car is. As far as the manual tranny thing goes, if you go SS/SC, you have no worries because they are all manual.
