Block heater question..

I did a search and couldent find the anwser i was looking for.

A family friend owns a car wrecker and he just got in a couple sunfires with the 2.2L ecotec. So I went down their today and took off one of the block heaters. Now my question is, does anyone know if the block heater from the 2.2L s/fire's will fit on the 2.0L?

I "Was" going to say you don't need it since you have to be in like -20C.
But then I noticed you're from Winnipeg.

I'm not sure honestly. First, the plug might extend from a different direction. Second, the LSJ has a different oil pan, which might not have the same mounting provisions as an L61. I'm kindda curious myself now. I have the block heater on my L61 Cobalt.

I can take a few pics, if that would help at all.

where did you find your answer?
When I questioned GM, they said the block heaters are available for all the ecotecs EXCEPT the 2.0L

I was told you cannot install a regular block heater with the LSJ engine.

Im not doubting you, in fact im hoping your correct. Id just love some more info

They were definitely wrong. There is a block heater available. Its just not an actual option when ordering the car.

Well I actually work at a dealership. So after not finding my answer on here, I just asked the parts guy. (which I should have just done in the 1st place) He checked his computer and said that it will definitely fit.

I have gone to the dealership and asked for a price for the blockheater for a 2.0L SS/SC was told it was around $200CDN!!!!! WHOA!!!!!!!

I then went to NAPA and it is $70!! But GM is telling me that the one for the S/C 2.0L is an "external" type and is different. Can someone take some pics of the one for the 2.0L from GM?? I am curious to what it actually looks like.

Thanks!

I can take a few pics of the one im installing (from the 2.2 s/fire) when I get home. Its an external b/heater. I didnt even know they made an internal one, I thought all ecotecs used external block heaters.

[Edit] Waay off topic here, But by any chance do you have any pics of ur car with the chrome projectors??

Yeah any pics would be great. Is there anyone from the US that knows of a place that would have a good price for one? With the Canadian $ being par with the US $, it might be better to get one from the US somewhere.

I really apologize for taking so long to get you that picture, but I was finally able to get them up.

This is the one from the ecotec powered sunfire/cav's. If you wanna save some money just get one of these from a wrecker, its never gonna be seen anyways.

This is the one you will get if you buy it from the dealership, It works for all 3 ecotec motor's.
