Cobalt Puked!

On my way to dinner this evening I was following a 4dr cobalt and I started smelling oil burning, I figured that it was his car burning some oil. I backed into a parking spot, shut the car off and got out of the car to find a bunch of smoke rolling out from under my cobalt. When I bent down and looked under the car, it was pouring out like a waterfall!! In ten minutes there was a puddle about 4 feet in diameter directly under the front of the engine and a 2 foot puddle under the low part of the exhaust back by the rear wheels. There was also a trail of oil where I had driven through the parking lot. I just had the oil changed by my dealership yesterday, the plug was still in and the filter cap was tight, as well as the fill cap. I couldn't tell where the oil was coming from. The car only has 6000 miles and I am pissed!!!

that sucks bro...take it back to the dealer. at least you got your oil change there, so even if it is the technicians fault, they have to do it under warranty

It ran down the exhaust, but what is confusing is that majority of the oil is coming from the front of the engine and the rest is somehow pouring on the exhaust manifold and running towards the back. I wonder how they are going to try and say that it was my fault?

So they fixed my car and they said that the oil filter housing was cracked. They also said that this is not the first time they have seen this.

Dis they seem to think it was an overtightening issue?Or just a design flaw?

one of the gs guys at the shop I used to work at filled a car up with too much oil. It ended up blowing out the front main seal AND the rear main seal. Car took 4 1/2 qts of oil and he put 7 in... and I had to fix it... little *******

The cap is plastic, but the housing is aluminium. The housing is what was replaced.
