Wheel & steering issues Warrantied !
Wheel & steering issues Warrantied !
I was asked how I got my Gun metal wheels warrantied & the same for the problems on the steering system so I thought I'd post it here in the problems thread to answer posters questions
I had several chips on my rims in the area of the spokes both front side & rear side.
My dealer stated it was from sand or gravel, So I showed him there are no chips on my inner fenders where it is painted & my car had NEVER seen a gravel roads & they agreed & ordered 4 NEW rims.
I recieved all 4 new rims & one was crap so they reordered 1 more it was crap so I'm still waiting for the second replacement but I'm asured by my dealer I will recieve the last one with no blems! These are not repainted rims they are fractory new rims & I noticed thay they paint them different now as the old ones had some what a dull finish & the new ones are glossy with a shinny finish? There is a TSB # on this but I have no number?
Now to the steering
I noticed a clunk every time I drove in & out of my driveway so I told them & they looked it over & stated it was the intermitent shaft in the steering rack & after testing it they stated it was out of factory tollerances. So they replaced the entire steering rack & gear with a new revised unit or I guess it's a whole unit, Then they realined the car. Now after that was done I had a weird clunk only when I turned left & right like if I swerved to mis a bump. They looked it over again & found there is a new updated clap for the intermitent shaft so they replaced that & all is great now.
You can read more about this in another thread started by snowbred here he posted the TSB # https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/problems-service-maintenance-69/steering-colum-noise-23990/
Now I had 2 other issues one was the shifter ball coming off & they replaced it & the other was both tranny mounts were failing & I could see they were falling apart when I changed my oil. They replaced both tranny mounts now I noticed the shifting is alot crisper & easer plus I don't seem to get the wheel hop as easy.
I have had great luck with getting all my issues taken care of & I owe it to my Service rep who I have known for years & he knows how I take care of my cars & trucks as he was the only person who serviced my SC Tahoe check it out in my sig.
When I first bought the car it had bad paint in the outer area below the door frames like it was dry or not painted enough or they didn't clearcoat it & they repainted them & then one lowwer rocker panel had cracked on the drivers side in the fenderwell area & they replaced it saying some of them were to short from the factory & when they were installed they cracked.
I always go in with a positive attitude & never start yelling or screeming as it gets you no where!
I was told my Injen CAI & my 2.8 Pulley nor my Ingals TD was fine & in no way Vioded my warranty so I guess I'll find out if I pop my motor, my advise is to find a Good dealer & even with that a good service rep as in the dealership I go to I have been treeted bad by other service reps. Only deal with who you know & trust and things get taken care of
I never go in telling them they need to fix my car I always state the problem & let them find it.
BTW I have a 2005 SS/SC with 28000+ miles on it with STG2, Injen CAI, Ingalls TD and a 2.8 pulleyboys Pulley which I only run in the summer as the winter air here in Iowa is just to dense & will cause problems in my opinion but it runs great in the summer
I hope this helps those who have PM'ed me about how to get warranty work done
