Got snows this size and found the rubber rubs on some plastic inside the wheel well.
Happens only when turning semi hard or breaking/turning.

Getting 205/60 on the 16 steel rims on Monday.

i dont see how it would be the width of the tire, but the 60 profile seems too tall for 16's considering my stock ones are 15's with 50 series

60 series is fine, I have it on the SS right now. I'm guessing the diameter is too big on the 215/60s (which is funny, that's what TireRack recommends). 205/60-R16 is almost identical to the stock 215/45-R18 diameter.

ive been driving on my 215 60 16's for 2 weeks now... no problems!

It is worse on the passenger side front, turning right under breaking.

Definately the rubber, not a mark on the inside of the wheel.

i have 215/55/16, fits like a dream, its .2 inches smaller in overall diameter then a stock tire, i could see a 60 series being slightly taller then stock.

you might have the wrong offset wheels on your car causing this rubbing problem.....

I don't even have rub and I run 255/50/16 BFG G-force drag radials, them things are WIDE!!! I also had to try 3 sets of wheels for the right offset and I still don't know what it is I just tried til I got one that worked

My dealer sold me 205 55 R16 for mine, did they screw up I seem to be the only one with this size of tire on my steelies...

Rubbing is gone now with the 205/60 16s.

Seems to be the correct steel wheel - only 1 listed to fit on the computer at Tirecraft. Not a lot of room in the front between them and the calipers, plenty in the back.

205/55 should be fine - just a bit smaller diam.

Get 205 like most people did, just to be safe (even if 215 did fit on a car or two - 205's should for sure).

No problem Mike; they are just three quarter of an inch smaller in diameter than your stock pirellis, and also are only 3% smaller for the circumference.

Thanks, I went back to the dealer to be sure and it was the size on their chart so I'm ok

I used 1010tire tech section tire comparison, using this you can calculate the closest tire diameter to the original, personally went with 205/60/16's because closest to the original size and you want a thinner tire when on snow and ice because increase in pressure to area ratio.

Tirecraft swapped them for ones that fit - since they sized them originally.

I bought Dunlop Graspic DS-2's for my car and they are great. Tire Rack said 205/60-16 and they fit fine. No rubbing at all

is the offset what they mean when they say the wheel is 16x6.5

how about 17in rims on the SS? what size tire is needed then to be at almost stock 18in diameter?

I'm keeping my oversize tires because I figure TireRack won't exchange them. Here's why: in order to get the 16" 5-110 tires to show up, I had to select a Saab 9-3. So I wasn't using their recommended tire size for the Cobalt. Even if they had exchanged them, it would've cost me $40 shipping plus $90 for install.

I asked my dad about the rubbing, and he said it wasn't going to cause a blowout or anything. The difference in radius is only 1/4", and a lot of that will wear off thru the season. Plus it only rubs when I'm braking and doing a hard turn -- when the car is leaning on one corner. This only happens a few times per week. So they're staying.

Now I just need to get my speedo adjusted...
