Note the 10.6 to 1 comperssion ratio! :beer: Should be a very strong runner.

The site still says auto only but we can always hope that this changes at a later date.

I read the HHR will have this engine with a 5 speed so that can't hurt.

And since my gf will liley get a Pursuit 2.4L it won't matter anyhow--she hates standard :(

Either way it will still be the fasted NA 4 cylinder automatic in its class.

They do actually list the RPM for HP, its all the way down on the bottom rigth of the second page. The HP actually really high for an engine of that size, 170 HP @ 6000 RPM. It also mentioned in one of the captions that because of VVT, the engine makes 90% of 170 lbs/tq at just 2400 RPM. Very impressive.

As you mentioned, they really should offer the 5-speed with the 2.4. Its almost ridiculous not too, because there are plenty of performance-minded buyers who want something in between the base model and the SS S/C. Hopefully they will offer it since they have it as an option on the HHR, it really would wouldn't make sense not to seeing as they share the same platform and engine.

im not sure they built the 2.4s to except a standard trans....my alero 2.4 ecotech though a much older model 1999, is auto and they didnt offer a stick until they switched to a 2.2, and from what ive read the 2.2 and 2.0 are basically the same which seems to me chevys choice was to not create the 2.4 to go standard but the th2.2 and 2.0 were....this is just my theory though not actual fact

I wouldn't mind having this engine in my car if they made it with a manual transmission... sucks, they might lose a lot of deals because they don't make it go both ways

If I'm not mistaken your engine is not ecotech and is in fact the same 2.4L TC put into the cavy z24s before the ecotechs came out in '02. Maybe manual wasn't an option with the alero, but it was on the cavys...

The "99" Alero's 2.4L was NOT the RPO- LE5, 2.4L Ecotech.

You are corerct, it was the 2.4 quad four from the cavy Z24's, and NOT an ecotec. It was an Iron block.

The 2.4 WAS offered with a 5spd in alero's, might not have been until 2000 though. In 2002 the ECOTEC (2.2) came out for the alero.

the 2006 Cobalt, Pursuit(canada), Ion, and HHR (all the A body variants) will get the LE5 2.4L ECOtec AND your CHOICE of the 4t45e auto or Getrag F23 5spd(the LSJ supercharged uses the Saab F35) manual transaxle*

If you look at the spy photos of the solstice engine I am betting a LOT of $$ that it will not be a 2.0 Turbo engine but if you look close it looks like a 2.4L Turbo VVT engine....... :)

Somehow I think GM will keep that exclusive to the solstice/sky for obvious reasons! :)

the Solstice and Sky will both debut with naturally aspirated 2.4L's @ ~170hp.

The GXP/Redline editions(if any) will likely get a turbo 2.4L, however as of this time that engine doesnt technically exist.

I wished they put the 2.4 in the origional SS. A supercharged 2.4L Ecotech @ 8psi with 92oct fuel and a 2 core intercooler would make 267hp at the wheels, 334 at the flywheel.

Marc exactly hwo far up your ass did you dig to get that exact hp/tq rating for an engine that does not now nor has ever existed, especially considering you have no way of knowing what type of intake or exhasut restrictions the engine would have nor could you possibly know the ECM's tuning parameters...........that and a 20% drivetrain power loss in a manual transaxle fwd vehicle sounds a bit high compared to othe GM platforms with similar powertrain combos...what transaxle are you using??? LOL

I could have sworn the ss I saw at the dealership today (Jim tubman chevrolet) in ottawa had a 5 speed manual...it was dark outside so I could be wrong on that....I'll go check again tomorrow....they must have some preproduction model or something...there is no price on the car at all..just a sticker that says for export only... :confused:

well if it is a manual, then it is true, these cars come both stick and auto, because i test drove an auto.
