Megan Exhaust Question

If the exhaust is a direct bolt-on, why have people cut their stock exhaust to install their Megan exhaust?

Here's a link of what I'm referring to.

because you cant get the stock one off unless you:

drop the rear axle

or

cut it and manuver it out

and then:

directly bolt on the megan

actually it's a torsion beam and it's a bitch to get off and back on with less then 3 people. it's pretty heavy and if you have the car on jackstands it's a pain in the ass.

that's why people cut it. you don't cut the new one, you cut the old one.

i knew that you cut the old one but is the whole old exhaust going to come off or is the megan going to bolt up to part of the old one?

the whole catback comes off and the new exhaust bolts to the downpipe.

it bolts up to the cat. hence the term "catback"

your gonna have to cut your stock exhaust for ANY aftermarket exhaust, not just the Megan.

By the way, you going to the MD meet on the 9th man?

thanks for the heads-up. i didn't know about the meet until now.
i'm actually kind of scared to go to the meet because i don't have much done to my balt considering the 9th will mark a month of ownership. 1 month anniversary! haha.

anyways, what i'm trying to say is that it's a possibility i'll go depending on when my tags will come in because my temporary tags will expire on the 9th.

No one cares if your stock or not. The guy I work with and go to all the meets with (Chris, NamedGobalt) is completely stock save for DC Sports strut bar. Lots of stock Cobalts go. We do it for fun, and to meet new people, not to show off and make it a competition. You'll be fine on temp tags. Hell, I drove around with dead tags and a dead inspection sticker for like 4 months just recently, and I never got pulled over for it. You should def come. We're trying to get this meet up to at least 20 people.

look under your car, you'll see a spot where 2 pipes are connected by 2 bolts. from those bolts back is the exhaust. from those bolts forward is the downpipe. on top of the downpipe (can't really see it from uner the car so good) is the exhaust manifold.
