Deal fell through on my Cobalt SS/SC :(
Went to the Dealership to pick up my Cobalt today, and the dealership turned out to be a bag of douche. Over the phone, and through emailing pictures, etc. The dealership offered me 11 for my truck, and said they could keep my payments right where I wanted them (290). So I drive 5 and a half hours to pick the car up today, and they've changed their mind. Here's where it gets re-damn-diculous. They look at my truck, and decide that since the interior is painted white, they're going to drop it from "good" blue book value to "fair" blue book value. This, in short, means that something that cost me 25 dollars to do, and something a $10 bath in acetone could eliminate, they're taking almost $3,000 off the value of my truck. Then the guy has the audacity to tell me that "9/10 people wouldn't even like that truck". Then, he insists on seeing how much the payments would be, and offers me 9600 for my truck, and a $327 car payment for SEVENTY FIVE months. How dumb is this place? It may have been for the best though, I found another one, same color, with the g85 package, and half the mileage for only 2500 more Hopefully things will work out with that one.
that sucks man.. i know me personally, i like things to be stock when i buy them.. im not into the painting your dash and stuff like that but jeez.. 3000 dollars. thats ridiculous. dont worry lol.. youll get one
the best way to get into a car is to get a car loan from your bank, and then go to the dealership, with your check and work on the price of the car from there. After you agree on the pricethen tell them you want to trade your truck in...
Yup, it catches them off guard. I did that with a GM Visa credit ($750) and another $1000 rebate for my G5 GT.
That sucks that you had to drive over 5 hours to get screwed by the dealer, hope it turns out well with the other one at least.
As long as you're looking at trade in values in kelly blue book, those are always a couple grand less then private party seller value. I don't trust dealers to ever give you a GOOD deal though, my father tried to trade in his 99' grand cherokee w/ 70000 miles and pristine interior and they offered $3500 at first. When we quoted blue book to him he upped it to $6000 but thats still $2000 less than blue book trade in value for that car.

You and me both, sir.
dealerships suck *****, i went yesterday to get a quote on my cobalt lt on a trade for an ss. My car is 11 months old with barely 10k miles and not scratches ding or any wear and they offered me $9,500. Last Febuary i paid 17k for it. I swear, these places are such a f'ing rip.

u gotta remember that dealers gotta make money off the trade in as well so of course there not gonna give you what your cars is worth.......other wise theyd loose money....so unless u wana get rid of it fast ur better off sellin it privatley
That sucks. I pretty much bought my Cobalt over the phone as well, and once I drove 60 miles to the dealer they had sold me an base model LS and no the LT I had asked for.
Yea and if they're anything like any of the dealers around here they would sell it for about $15k. I bought my Cobalt last February as well and it only has 4,920 miles on it and I probably wouldn't get anywhere near what it's worth if I traded it.

Everyone thinks that dealerships purposly rip people off. People just don't understand how they get the price they are giving you on a trade in value, no matter what kind of car it is. They don't ever use Kelly's Blue Book. That book is just a basic reference. They get their prices by what that particular car goes for at the auctions. It basically comes down to what kind of demand there is on the vehicle you are trying to get rid of. Unfortunately for the Cobalt, all the rental places use it as a rental, so the trade in value for it will always be way less than what you are wanting for it. Like someone said earlier, you should never trade your car in, you should always sell it out right yourself. You will always get more money doing it that way!! I am not just pulling this information out of my ass either, I used to to sell cars. They dealers may always try to talk you into trading your vehicle in, because they will make money off of you and the vehicle when they resell it.
Fastest way to kill resale value = trash the interior. NO WAY I'd buy a used car with a painted interior; that's the one area of the car I have to look at all the time while I'm driving. A clean, nicely maintained STOCK interior adds resale value.
I'm with the dealer on this one.
