Converting to RWD/ LS1 road race car

In the near future I will be chopping the **** out of my cobalt to make it rear wheel drive and drop an ls1/t56 combo in it. Has anyone seen this done yet? If so, is there a link or any info on this? Thanks for your help.

buy another camaro.. bolt on cobalt body panels..

way cheaper for the same result and lots less $$$$$$

seriously, if i wanted a RWD econobox i'd go get a ford Focus.. a Ford 8.8" pretty much bolts in and you can fit a modular motor... so im sure an LSx engine would fit

Cobalt is just too much fab work.. if you look at victory redss he has almost nothing left from the cobalt except exterior body panels. Probably should have just built a chassis and worried about determining what panels to bolt on the exterior later..

Has anyone considered using the drivetrain from the Solstice? I got a look at the rear suspension and it looks very doable. I did not get a chance to look at the front subframe.

you dont have to tubb and backhalf it. I'd use the stock rear suspension mounting points, narrow up a 8.5" 10 bolt and hang it under there. THe front subframe could mostly stay as-is other than moving the rack and pinion to the front of the axle. Use the clutch bellhousing and trans out of the GXP or redline and your 85% there. The tunnel will have to get cut some for sure and the Gas tank would have to get moved, or ahve a custom one with an armored driveshaft tunnel.
