Parents think there is no difference between Premium and unleaded!!
2009 SS owners manual says NO LESS than 91 octane. most premium is 93 at least where i live. i dont know if it does me any good, but i do 93 anyway...it makes me feel better for some reason haha. dumbshit dealer filled me up with 87 when i got it in may. all they know is oh thats a chevy with 4 tires. thats it. i dont want to make anyone cry but the other day i got my oil changed at the dealer Fox Chevrolet in timonium...the salesman in there walks up when i was lookin at the new SS Camaro, and goes so what do you think about the new corvette? i looked over at a Z06 they had and i said its nice, he goes no this one. and yes he was completely serious.
Premium is unleaded though....
Unleaded = Without Lead.
So technically,
Deisel, Regular, Plus, Premium
and Jet Fuels are all unleaded.
AvGas, used for aircraft piston engines
DOES contain lead. Most common form of
that is 100ll 100 Octane, Low Lead.
Octane rateing simply (its alot more complicated)
but simply its the fuels abilty to resist detonation.
Detonation is a sudden explosion of the fuel/air
mixture when its compressed.
Deisel and Jet fuels are very low octaine. Mostly because
of how a deisel engine works. (Jet fuel and desial are so similar
they are prety much enterchangable)

Meh, E85 FTW! Now THAT is a definite fuel you can't just swap around. All the others, if you don't run the car hard, can be used w/o damage to the car untiul you fill up w/ 91 or better next tank.
Octane boost works just fine, its 99.9% kerosene and helps prevent pre-ignition, I had to use it in my motorcycle when they ran out of fuel in Alberta (couldn't find mid/premium for a while). Threw in half a bottle of Octane booster and i didn't hear any pinging for the 250km trip.
Personally, I wouldn't use it unless you HAVE to

Agreed with the octane booster, my buddy used it in his SRT-4 when he had to use regular and it didn't make a single knock.

Just because you didn't hear any pinging, doesn't mean anything.
Look up what is considered "octane points" in reference to octane boosters. You'll be surprised at what it actually means.

It's all in the octane rateing....
I put mid grade in once, whe nI first baught
before I got it tuned right and it was running
rich as hell. But then when I read the manual
and the Haynes manual I only ever put in
Premium since. It actually reccomnds
91 octane, but I only see 87 89 and 93
at the pumps, better to go higher then
lower. I have an aftermarket tune too so
Ill probably stay with 93 even if a 91 is offered.
But ya, useing lower octane then reccomended
can cause bad things to happen....
If your driving a car that runs on 87 normaly
then putting in 89 or 93 would all run about the same.
So your mom is correct but only for cars that run on 87.
Kerosene, Diesle and Jet Fuel are all VERY VERY Similar.
I would say You can even use them interchangelble without
much notice. I do remember from school that Jet Fuel, Deisle
and Kerosene fall arround / below the 50 octane rateing...
So why would they put it in an octane BOOSTER?

Ya, My dads really cheap when it comes to that kind of stuff. he buys the cheapest crap he can find (which around here is like Valero, Arco, Etc) and I buy the good stuff like 76 and Chevron. I do the math every time I fill up and the difference between premium and the lowest grade is anywhere from $1.50 - $3.00. I am aware what lower octane fuel can do to cars I was just curious if anyone actually put mid grade in their SS/SC or SS/TC or even the regular SS and having it cause knock or any other problems so I can shoot it right back at him and tell him to quit bugging me.
80 octane (red) (I dont think you can get it anymore)
100 octane (blue) Most common, called 100LL for Low lead content (Still has lead)
130 octane (green) Higher lead content then 100LL
