also according to the argument that means the stock SS/SC is a direct competitor to the Ariel Atom LSJ.

Get the hell out of here with that.

Or perhaps Ferrari and Lamborghini and all the other supercar manufactureres out there aren't comparable becasue the have different displacement engines?

I give up. I live by the old motto, "If I have to explain it to you you will never understand'. I think I'll just go for a ride and blow some more Japanese wind-up toys in the weeds.

And let's make them the from the same company that way they have the same amount of reliability and rattles and what not. And then...oh wait by this time they are the same car. Get that ricer math garbage the hell out of here it makes you sound ignorant.

And like I said...the Cobalt SS wasn't, by any means, one of the cars I was looking into. I came across that "wind damaged" deal and got this car with a sticker of 24k for 16,500...plus my trade and cash down...I financed 11k after tax and everything...so you can see why I would go with this over the MS3. I mean this car has certainly grown on me and it's an absolute blast to drive...but the MS3 is certainly an amazing blend of quality and power and can be DIRECTLY compared to the CSS, CSRT4, GTI, Civic SI, MINI Cooper S, and any other comparably priced sport compact. So please...don't use ricer math to try to say that it's not a fair comparison.

Lol, another person with a wind damaged model. I stated the exact same thing in one of my earlier posts....Had this deal not come up I would be driving an MS3. But after driving the SS it's completely grown on me and I can't see myself driving anything else in this class.

No I was curious why subscribe to it, cause most people subscribe to something thats up and coming you know? Like the rear break issue, or a new ZZP turbo kit coming out soon with Dyno coming soon, or track times coming soon. thats all. No one was gonna post in this anymroe and I was just curious

I just read the magazine tests for the VW GTI (I dunno why they keep comparing this POS to the MS3) and the MS3, both 2010 models. They're slow and don't handle as well as the SS/TC.

I hope they fixed some major problems with the MS3:
engine falling out of the car
turbo burning oil

fall out of car was only on 2007 and early 08's. after recall I only heard of a couple.
turbo burning oil - yeah they kept revising something as there were like 8 turbo p/n's. Meh I never had a issue with either and the drive train warranty 5yr 60k covers the turbo seals.

I hear lots of issues on the lnf too so its just like any car. Thats why we have warranties

When I was shopping for a pocket rocket, the only MS3 in the area was a 2008 being sold as new (this was April 2009). It was an early 08 model too, so the engine would probably fall out and the turbo would probably suck oil like a diesel from the 70s. The LNF itself is a pretty stout motor. There are other issues with the Cobalt itself (rear brakes, e-brake adjustment from factory, lousy headlights, etc...) but I wanted something that was fast, handled well, and had a sunroof. The MS3 is none of these things and it doesn't look like Mazda subscribes to kaizen because the 2010 isn't much of an improvement.

you make it sound like the MS3 is slow and handles like crap. it doesn't, the SS/TC may be a bit faster but the MS3 is no slouch. the motor mount issue and turbo seals are both recalls you can get done. its not that big of a deal.

BTW what color MS3 did you look at?

I didn't mean to say the MS3 was slow like the VW GTI, it just didn't feel as fast or angry as the SS/TC. There was noticeably more torque-steer in 1st gear acceleration (I was practically thrown into the left lane) and the 6-speed gearshift felt like it'd fall apart at any time due to how you can push it down (to get into reverse) at any gear/position.

I test drove the bright red 2008 MS3 and I did like the:
HID headlights
LED taillights
5-door station wagon practicality
Audi-like refined interior

What I didn't like about the MS3:
black interior (felt too dark, like I was driving in a cave)
no sunroof (some BS about extra reinforcements in the roof)
single piston front calipers
telescopic steering wheel looks great on paper, wasn't that useful for me
seats weren't as comfortable as the one in the SS/TC
