My GTP with just a smaller pulley (3.4 vs 3.8 stock) short ram intake, reprogrammed pcm, and ubend delete was running high 13's. I never had it dynoed but from other people on the forums I could estimate about 220-230 whp and that was heavier car at 3400+lbs.

If I do a GM Stage 2 + intake on my new cobalt will that possibly get me into the 13's if I can drive it and launch it perfectly??

i thought our cars only have like 175-180 whp stock??

What they should've done was make 1st longer, have it hit close to 40 mph at the stock 6500 rpm rev limit....shorten 2nd so it hits like 61 mph...shorten third to like 93-95 mph, and our cars would almost be 13 second cars stock

I agree with 1st gear, but I would leave 2nd and 3rd where they are.imo

Actually, I don't look at the speed in 1st. Where does it take us now? I do agree with longer though...

again the car is not geared for drag and you have to learn how to drive first gear. road racing you would never go back to first after the start. that is why it is geared that way. I like it this way and would not change it. it is nice for cruising the city.

try this on for size.
my gxp. box stock
13.89@ 97. 2.1 60ft.

ss/sc box stock
14.6@97. 2.1 60ft.

gearing plays a bigger roll then most realize.

I get that it is not set up for drag, but for city driving too, I think a longer first gear would help. Goiong from a dead stop to a right hand turn, I'd like to get through the turn without having to shift or readline (okay, it's not quite THAT bad, but you get my meaning).

hell i am so lazy i start in 2nd a lot of the time.

I believe (i don't know much so go easy on me) the road to a faster 1/4 mile time can be done 2 ways.

1) better launches

2) enough power to trap above 105+ mph and not care about launches.

(Ssnipes probably knows who i am talking about with this) We know a certain SRT4 owner that has awesome trap speeds and a very nice 1/4 mile time. It appeared he built for this. This summer he added DRs, cut his tire spin and smoked a 7.59 @ 95.92 1/8 mile time.

(I am not sure if the guy did more than just add DRs but I am pretty sure.)

Only reason i am mentionign this is that it backs up my idea of there being 2 ways to build for effect. Most cobalt owners seem to be going for power first as well and we have terrible traction and a horrid 1st gear. 2nd gear i can almost redline and get better power in 3rd or i can shift early before i leave my power band in 2nd but then I am below power in 3rd...

There are so many different things to screw up this idea of "do this" or "do that" to make it worth while as an arguement. Like as we build for more power the obvious approach is stage kits and smaller pulleys.... This just gets us more heat which then lowers efficiency plus the smaller pulley robs us of more power. Another obvious one is "wheel hop".... Eliminate wheel hop and our car STILL sits there not moving wasting valuable time.

What holds us back??

suspension
gearing
heaton supercharger
heavy rims

and sadly ignorance...

Sorry to make such a long post but in this thread there is a ton of good information satturated with a ton of crap from trolls.

I didn't buy my car to go in a straight line.

i should be going to the track friday to try to break 14's

i honestly think the reason i could not is cuz i start to hop around 6000-7000 rpm

solution? shift around 6000?

and when throwing it in second, feather the gas for no hop or spinning

i think i can do better then a 14.4 with that
