BS Detector- K&N's in Ecotecs
Ok... i need some input on this because basically my brother has to be full of crap. He works at a Chevrolet dealership and swears up and down that GM DOES NOT recommend putting K&N filters in the 2005 2.2L Ecotec engine. He says that the K&N screws up the mass-airflow sensor.
This just sounds stupid. Any of you guys know anything about this. I have absolutely NO experience with the Ecotec. I have spent the past 7 years pooping around with the old 2.2L OHV engine in all its various FI guises (1-2bbl, 2-TBI, 1-MPFI, 1-SFI) and not once has the K&N screwed anything up.
Any info to put this crap to rest would be greatly appreciated.

This is very possible if you over oil your K+N. But it shouldn't be a big issue.
If you put the K+N in the car and it starts to run funny, you can always simply remove the MAF sensor and use a Q-tip and some Windex to gently clean the sensor itself.
If it runs better then you know you are getting oil on the sensor (not to mention you would see a little "red" crap on the end of your Q-tip.
I wouldn't worry about it.

lol, this is so true, i was just wait for someone on here to post a problem. the oil on the filter CAN POTIENTIALLY inturupt the MAF sensor. this can cause the engine to pretty much just not want to run. this happened recently at the shop where my dad is service mgr at. wasnt a SS though. so until we get a documented case, i would keep using it. just remember though, warrenty WILL NOT pay for the replacement of it if it happens to be the case that it needs to be replaced, they most likely will just clean it off...which they will prolly make you pay for as well.
