On both my driver and passenger side door armrests, there are small chips in the silver paint where my passenger's or my jewelry (rings/watches) hits. Is there some type of protective top coat that I could put on these panels to prevent further damage?

I've already stopped wearing my watch while I drive.

 

I would imagine the dealer should replace those under warranty.... I had a look at another members SS and the silver stuff all around his drivers door is coming off all over... It dont think it from anything rubbing and/or hitting it either..

 

Moved to problems and service.

 

I have the exact same problem on both sides...looks like GM's true quality is shining through after a couple months...

I'll show my dealer at the next oil change...I'm not looking forward to battling for 2 replacements..especially if that cheap silver paint is just going to come off again..

 

i'm starting to see the same thing happen with mine too. it's coming off mostly near my power window switches.

 

I took mine in for that . They both were replaced with no questions asked .

 

had my passenger side replaced, now driver side is starting a little bit

 

Did they tell you if the replacement is of better quality? If not, I would hate to have to get it changed every 6 months when the paint starts peeling..

 

what if the panels are coming off will they replace those too.

 

i had that same problem on my 05 cobalt. i never asked the dealer about it though, cuz i had a buy back on my 05 cobalt and got a 06 ss sedan

 

Little note to anyone that has paint peeling problems. DO NOT use petroleum based dash shine products like Armor All. They're notorious for causing paint to peel on dashes, door panels, switch bezels etc etc.

A damp paper towel and perhaps some brushes for deep cleaning is all that's needed to keep your interior looking nice. You can also use a mild soap.
