08 going through gms1 sensors
I know this is the 1000th thread about this but I haven't found a clear answer. I drive a ton of highway and my 08tc just rolled 100k. Anyways, along the way I've had misfires and CEL's a bunch of times (from bone stock all the way through current mods, which are GMS1 and K&N SRI). When it was stock, the dealer usually just reset the codes or put in a new plug and let it go. Then they said the gms1 would be a cleaner tune and the car shouldn't misfire again. Well it still threw codes and they replaces the 3-bar sensors. It was fine for awhile but its starting to act up again (turbo flutter, not boosting properly etc). I did the easy stuff just to make sure (sprayed the MAF and had all new plugs installed). Still does it. Going back to the dealer next week (probly to get yet another sensor replaced). So hopefully this fixes it. So my question is, how do I avoid this again? I'm paying out of pocket now w/o any warranty left. I have heard buy a catch can or just flash a Trifecta tune on. Are these options that would fix this problem? Any input appreciated. Thanks, guys.

As for the car overall, it's held up pretty well. Few sets of tires, brakes, plugs. Also end links. Other than that, when its not acting up, it runs awesome.

Well if they change the map sensors And it was fine for awhile, I would say its the sensors.. usually they fail because of blow by oil, and the sensors get caked in oil and fail. A catch can will most likely solve this issue!

Have them solder the joints on the TMAP, surround it in conduit and zip tie it to your lower charge piping with enough slack for it to move if necessary. The main issue on the lower TMAP is the harness smashes off the AC condenser and over time this breaks the solder joints, or the crimps can come loose depending on which was done to your car. I've had that harness redone 4 or 5 times in the span of a year or so, and this is the first time they tied it back to keep it away from the condenser since the solder joints on the side smashing it were consistently cracking/failing.

Well I will def look into tying it back then...If they change the sensor out, can I ask to see the old one and be able to tell if oil is what is causing it to fail? That way, I can get a catch can if need and hopefully eliminate both issues to prevent it from happening again.

Sure, just ask them if you can see the old ones because you want to see if there is oil residue, and if so you'll be looking into a catch-can so this cycle of blowing out sensors stops. I can't imagine there's anything else in there getting on them.
