Hello all I am new to the Cobalt community and am looking to do some upgrades.
I recently bought an 09 cobalt ss with 55k miles on it and it is a virgin.
I was thinking of purchasing some upgrades for her. My thoughts,
Charge pipes,
CAI
and catless downpipe.
Will I need a tune for these bolt ons? (I know to get the most out of a tune but I will be moving to a city soon with 93 and a tuner that tuned my mustang).
typically with an CAI and what I not you don't typically need a tune, the ECU will compensate for it.

 

U need a tune for everything but the charge pipe. Everything else will cause a CEL and also theses cars have a learn down system. U will always make 260 hp and 260 ft/lb no matter what mods you do. A tune is essential to make power, keep it running proper, and not have your fuel trims all over the place.

 

Thanks for the reply! I’ve heard a lot of good things about trifecta tunes. But don’t see the appeal rather than going to a tuner on a dyno and tuning it right then and there. Pros and cons?

 

Trifecta isn't the best tune. Make sure whoever does it is very knowledgeable with tuning cobalts. There are a few who specialize in it and can remote tune you if you have hp tuners.

 

ZZP tuned mine and it now runs better than when it was factory. my mods include K&N intake, Charge pipes. mine was tuned for the intake
