I have HPTUners... so I limit torque and boost in 1st gear with a very aggressive RAMP up into torque and boost in 2nd gear...

2nd to 3rd NLS still equal lots of tires smoke.

just have to do controled clutch slips... to keep power to the ground.

1.7's 60. I hope to god to hit a 1.7. If I hit a 1.7 I will run around a 11.8.

At what point do you go WoT?

I've noticed that no matter when I go WoT with JUST my Trifecta tune I break the tires loose in 1st. Even if I don't break them loose on the launch, then go WoT, they start to break loose.
Dont worry about the lights when you are trying to get a good time. I never even got the clutch released fully in first when I was on street tires.

Sure, but if reaction time is .5 then how much does that take off of your overall time?

So just ride my clutch a little more on the launch to insure better traction?

How fast is this going to burn my clutch up? I'm going to the track on friday. With a good launch I might get into the mid 13's ^-^

I have a tune only and am running a 13.081. I do have a motor mount, trans mounts, and muffler delete, but they don't do anything for performance. Should be in the 12's with the new tires I have.

I had dissapointing times tonight, I had to 13.99's, best 60' foot was 2.22, I'm getting slicks next year, screw street tires. I know I should be faster in the quarter with the mods I have. My car was trapping consistantly at 102-103. Track I was at doesn't have the best prep. Cooler, less humid weather needs to be here.

Why does everyone just default to slicks when their 60' time sucks? Why not learn to drive on street tires first eh?

BTW, my 60' times are 2.1's and I run a 13.0@110.

My best 60 has been a 2.002 on street tires.

Oh, my comment wasn't made toward you, i have seen what you do, and it is good. Lol. Just these people that come in here and say, I could only get a 2.95 60' time, so **** street tires, I'm getting slicks. These are the people that run 30 psi in their slicks, and don't do enough of a burnout to warm them up, and that **** pisses me off. If you can't drive, learn to drive before you go spending money on stuff thats only going to make you look cool.

No offence, but most of us don't have anyone to teach us. Generally slicks is the best route. I'm all for learning how to launch with the continentals. But i've also only been driving stick for a year. I do this for fun, not for competition. Which is why I've been asking questions about the clutch, etc.

No offense taken, and I understand where you are coming from. BUT, slicks wear on ALOT more than just the clutch, and I don't see the benefits of running slicks if you are just doing it for fun. Maybe my appeals differ from other people's, but I see great appeal in running street tires because it is a sort of disadvantage. I have set goals for myself, and when i meet those goals, i will consider turning to slicks. But, just because I have a shitty 60' time doesn't mean its time to move to slicks.

Long story short, I guess I am trying to say slicks are a bandaid. If you suck at driving on street tires, you'll suck on slicks.

I live close by there and have been meaning to get up there with this new tune but just haven't found the time. Oh and the 100mph club...shouldn't be a problem for you...I did it stock.

Practice makes perfect! I went out my first time at the track and ripped off a crappy 13.8. I knew both my car and my abilities had WAY better than that, and with some tuning tweaks, and skill refinement (through 40 runs on the car in the first half of this season) am now down to a 13.0.

I stuck with cmillers addvice on working on my launch last night and it did help out quit a bit, a 2.22 60' is my best so far in the cobalt. They get lower everytime I go out, its just finding that right certain spot does take time. I'm not nls'ing since I am tuned after seeing the horrow pictures Maven posted up on a thread I had started, so losing a little time on the shift probably. Just need to keep at it.

Practice makes perfect. Learning how your track operates is the best too. I can consistently launch at 4k rpm, but your track may not allow that, or may allow a higher launch before gobs of spin.

Dunno. Havn't really tried riding the clutch at the track, so it's hard to say. They allow 5ki launches, which helped me out to slowly slip the clutch when I was stock. Too much power to do that now. I've gotten OK at leanching between 2-3k, but again, I've never ridden the clutch once I've launched. Won't be going to the track tonight either.

When we go it's more of a family event. Uncle has a 66GTO that he races and he bailed out on us. My aunt has an 02 Mustang GT and she T-boned someone a few days ago. Which leaves me the only one. Pretty sure we're going next week though!
