2008 Cobalt SS/TC Corner Weights / Overall Weight
I had a little time after work today so I corner weighted the Cobalt SS/TC. I've seen weights between 2975 (GM) and 2935 (Road and Track) and I wanted to find out how much a SS/TC with a Sunroof weighed.
My Results:
SPECS:

Fuel: 1/4 tank
Mods: Sportline Springs, Window Tint
Weight Reduction Mods: None
WEIGHT: 2907 Cross Weight: 51.0% v. 48.5%

The Cobalt SS is lighter than my '07 Z06. I wonder how much the back seat weighs.
I'm gonna pick one up for my Daily commute.
I'm surprised to see a car like the cobalt weight in at less than 2900 - by today's standards. And its not a small car.
I wonder without the sunroof and some weight reduction (hood, interior, etc) - if the car could get down to 2600's.

What are the front fenders made of?
Kinda surprised it's a bit heavier than the SS/SCs. I have all the cross weight info from mine somewhere. All I remember is w/o driver with 1/4 tank of gas it weighed in at 2840. That's loaded with everything except G85.
Some of the additional weight in TC may well come from ongoing chassis and NVH improvements. The front brakes are heavier. Side airbags add some too.

I was trying to figure out how to get more weight on the rear, which is why I want a larger wing - track day's.

It would be interesting to know where all of the weight increase(s) come from. Of course, mine is loaded, so it's the heaviest SS possible.

Actually everything I have:
Sunroof
High Rise
Pioneer sound system w/sub
OnStar
XM
Side airbags
I would guess brakes and possibly seats as well as beefed up suspension parts.
Coilovers. You know the corner weights you can compensate with suspension adjustments.
Remember - your cross weights will vary b/c this was done with a set of Eibachs installed.
The spare doesnt weight much at all. What's funny is - look at the rear weights with the jack/spare. They are nearly spot on. Impressive. The battery is in the trunk so no doubt they moved the battery around to get a good weight distribution before finally strapping it down. If you had a set of coilovers, you'd could play around with the heights to lower the LF weight - which i believe is done by raising the LR - which increases the RF - and decreases the LF. For drag racing, wieght up front is a good thing.
Something like that. You could also do some static weight changes, but thats more diff.
I suspect the front brakes may be a tad lighter since the aluminum brembos offset the larger rotor diameter. We also have aluminum spindles and LCAs - which I dont think the SC has (dunno for sure).

I doubt the calipers are any lighter...they may be aluminum, but they are more massive than the standard iron calipers, and they contain more steel piston weight...probably a toss-up.
