Aftermarket tune using a second ECU?
could we get back to the original topic please lol. i have been thinking about doing this for awhile but i wasnt sure how well it would work. i am a diesel technician for international and our ecms store the miles and hours of the truck. i was wondering if swapping the ecm back and forth would have any obvious mileage discrepancy. thanks
Lol, SSlobalt, you shouldn't speak unless you know what your talking about. I come from "Evo world" so you should ask me do I know anyone who HASN'T invoked MagMoss Warranty Act. ****, last week I was up the street with a friend with cams, tune, IC piping, exhaust, exhaust manifold, ect ect letting the dealerships manager know he couldn't void the cars warrenty. My friend wanted his brake calipers repainted as Evo's peel. The dealership refused work on his car. In short ts painted now. Last year I went up for a gearbox noise, more mods then you'll ever have, guess what, its replaced. Don't be afraid of dealerships, they are and always will be your bitch.
Sorry for throwing this back off topic, it just bothered me. Don't be afraid to threaten them if you don't believe the malfunction is your fault. If the issue is your fault you can decide what to do, but usually parts fail because they are inferior quality.. and I won't have that.

Here is how I look at it , for factory defects and or anything you think your tune and bolt on parts didn't cause you can take it in all stock and expect a warranty out of it . With a swapped ECU no way in hell even if they send it to GM are they going to be able to tell that it was swapped ..
If you guys are so worried about warranty get a GMS1 kit and keep it pretty much stock ..
The guys who are tuned bolted pushing infini boost running high amounts of boost fully bolted and are trying to defeat the system thinking they are clever and are getting away with something they are just ass holes , why should GM have to pay for something you broke .
Now I know some dealers are complete dicks and they will try and void your warranty for just about anything because they have a bad taste in there mouths obviously because GM has burned them on reimbursement for warranty claims..
Map sensors go bad and things happen from factory defects thats the part that the dealer needs to understand that not ALL after market stuff caused the problem and thats why we have a 2nd ecu so they cant **** us for something stupid in the long run ...
Just find a cool dealer with a cool Service manager get to know them before you bring these things in because every one knows we do have some issues that should be covered under warranty ..
If you tune your **** with some shitty cortex tuner or use Trifecta to max out the turbo and you blow **** up dont be a ***** and put your other ECU in to get free stuff , thats just wrong .... If you feel the problem really didn't have anything to do with your set up then warranty it ..
Most of us tuned and fully bolted guys are smart enough and willing to fix small problems our selves .... It's the 75% of the other ass hats that are complete N00bs
