Air Filter on Back Order

I'm frustrated because GM doesn't have an air filter for my 08 SS. They have one 3 hours away from me, but they won't ship it to me. I found a K & N drop-in filter, but my dealership told me it will void the warranty. They can't order it because it is on back order, and has been for a month. I'm bummed. I used my air compressor to blow mine out, but I know thats not good. Any Ideas? Thanks guys...

LNF air filter part number is: 25894265

if you order from gmpartsdirect.com its $35.10 which is similar to the price the dealer will charge

Not to be a dick but go get the K&N filter for your local auto parts store.

Works wonders on these cars.

They can not void your warranty for having a K&N filter.

uhhh. if you're really concerned about the K&N voiding your warranty go check the FAQs on their website.

anddddd if you dropped in a K&N and was worried about warranty all you'd have to do is pop off two clips and drop the stock one back in.....

that wasn't exactly rocket science.

Wow, I'm an idiot. I'm glad we have established that!

I just talked to Derick over in the parts department, and he told me that the K & N will void the warranty.

No one is calling you an idiot I don't think.

If I worked in the parts department I would tell you any aftermarket part would void your warranty.

just have your dealer get you one; they would likely have it in a day or two

he's wrong, partially. It will only void the warranty on your filter, and any damage caused by the filter. which is nothing, as long as you don't over-oil it.

Have you considered the source of this information?

one never get advice from the parts department. they are making it so u buy their products.
a dealership CANNOT void warranty for filter unless they can prove it caused a problem to what broke.
they CANNOT void ur whole warranty without proof. go to a new dealership after giving this one the finger

All k&n filters now come with an slip of paper inside that states if your dealership tries to void your warrenty cause of this filter then contact k&n and they will talk to the dealership for you and straighten it all out. k&n is worth much more money than any single car dealership. And I trust k&n, oh and I have never had my warrenty voided due to a k&n.

to screw up our maf readings?

LNF is too finicky with intakes.

Drop in filter is the best with snorkel mod.

Alright, I bought the K & N. When I went to install it, I lifted up on the top of the airbox and I heard a pop. I looked around to see what it was and I couldn't figure it out. I installed the filter and closed the airbox. Right before I shut the hood, the vaccum line that goes to the intake manifold came off of the intake ducting. I noticed that I broke the little plastic nipple. I already ordered the part from GM and I'm currently doing a cheap glue fix until it comes in. My drop-in filter has now cost me $120. I guess I cost myself that much. For anyone who hasn't replaced the filter: Remove the stupid vaccum line before you take the filter out. It's a frustrating mistake.

Question As pathetic as it sounds ...

Is there a How To on changing the air filter ?

I read the manual, but it does not give squat for pics ( drawings ), and I'd rather not learn the hard way if I can avoid it !

Thanks !

Unhook the vacuum line from intake piping. The vacuum line is attached to the intake manifold. If you don't take it off, you will get really pissed off. After that, there are two clips on the airbox. Just unclip and BAM! Air filter.
