Airbox Mod and how to do it

I searched around and many people talk about this but I cannot find any specifics. What exactly is the airbox mod and how do you do it? Does GM care if you do this?

I heard there was a recall on the stock airbox. Is this true? what is the recall about? Any website out there that tracks all recalls on our cobalt ss's? Thanks.

1) The airbox mod removes the reduction in the snorkel that sits inside the fender well and is attached to the airbox. The snorkel starts of at about 3" dips down to about 2" and then goes back to 3" this mod removes that reduction.

2) GM obviously doesn't want you doing this but as for it giving you troubles with warranty issues I doubt it. If you do a clean job it's hard to notice the mod has even been done and it doesn't have any harmful effects on the engine.

3) I don't beleive there is a recall on the stock airbox there is a recall on the stock Inter Cooler Piping/Charge Piping to help prevent it from popping off, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

4) Search this forum and you should be able to find all of the recalls applicable to our cars.

I just did the ZZP Intake Mod this weekend took me about 3 hours but I took my time because I'm a perfectionist and I did remove the FR wheel and some trim clips in the wheel well to get to one Trim Clips holding the stock snorkel on (I'm told you can remove this clip without taking the wheel off but it's really easy to do).

removing the wheel isn't necessary. I did mine without going that route.

I just removed the snorkel.

Take the headlight out. Make sure to loosen the tabs on the grill to get the light out easier.

Remove the front bolt and pull that ****** out of there.

I couldn't reach the rear tab on the darn thing so pulling was all I could do.

Removing and reinstalling the headlight is a real PITA

I hate it too, but the wheel liner is worse.

The key on the headlights is to remove tabs on bumper above the grill. It allows for movement of the bumper

I removed the headlight and the housing but I still couldn't get my my screw driver in far enough to get to the far trim clip for the snorkel.

Actually you dont have to remove the wheel well just a few trim clips and then gently peel back the center portion of the wheel well and you can easily access that last trim clip.

Yeah that's why I said I couldn't either. I just grabbed and pulled really freaking hard. Came out and I got a good laugh.

I got the inside push threw out by using my finger nail and getting under the head of the push pin and pulled it right out ......then the rest just pulled out with the snorkel. The head light and frame aren't hard to remove ..... a lot easier than jacking the car up toget the wheel off then going threw the wheel well .

ZZP saw some gains but I don't recall how much. When I went from stock airbox to doing airbox mod, you could just tell, the engine justs breathes better. Kinda hard to explain but if you do it, you will notice.
