Question another brakes & wheels question..

just reading through some info on another thread, but honestly, i fell asleep trying to search for what i wanted, way too much info to try to find 1 or 2 things out..
i am just wanting to find out what brakes i could switch over to and still have room to throw on 16" or 17" wheels for some big meaty drag slicks.... looking at some brembo kits, stoptech, yadda yadda,,, im not seeing anything that really says, yes john, these are smaller than your STOCK brembos so you can put small wheels for slicks on... that should pretty much cover it, im just trying to get something figured out so i can buy a full set, while still having awesome brake performance... i dont want to buy LSJ brakes, i dont want anything thats just a plain jane swap... i was thinking drilled/slotted rotors, but have heard bad things about them... i dont race my car every day, i just want somethin cool lookin i guess and that can actually perform better than stock bullshit... if im not makin sense, its probly because im very tired and a lil bit brainwashed right now. been havin some close calls, losin lots of friends here in afghanistan.

Brakes like Brembos and stoptech are more for road racing not drag racing so most of them wont fit with slick because they werent meant for slicks in mind. Stock brakes perform pretty well(atleast the front). You could also always powdercoat the stock brakes as well to give them more flare.

Or I think if you get a pair of SS/NA wheels you can fit slicks on them with spacers with the Brembos but im not 100% sure.

hm.. thanks for the info, i agree with what you say very much now that i think about it, i mean i just HATE the fact that GM put HUGE brembo calipers on some bullshit STANDARD GM rotors,,, another reason i want them gone is that i have read time and time again that they are not the "best of all brembos" ... i know i said i dont race my car on the track, but i do occasionaly get into some runs with other cars, usually getting into shitty situations where i need to have reliable brakes lol... ((traffic is a bitch when ur goin 150 tryna slow down without frying your brakes)) so i mean, i am just trying to find out if there is something AFTERMARKET that is smaller,,, but still just as effective if not more,, than the stock set... now, the spacers, im glad you reminded me of that.. i could just get anything basicly, throw on some spacers, and be able to run descent slicks on some 17's... i am lowered on eibach sportlines, so there again i have NO CLUE what size slicks i could go with even after i have a set of 17's,,,, spacers,,, and smaller rotors & calipers... probably if i could SEE with my own eyes some brake packages, i could see what would work but i know someone on here knows a lot more than me when it comes to this lol. i just dont want to sacrifice braking performance while going smaller...

Stock Brembo's rock. There's a reason the SS/TC has the Nurburgring lap times it does.

that said, the 17" SS/NA wheels clear the Brembos without a spacer.

You may want to break up your posts, and compose your thoughts a little, that **** is really hard to read and comprehend.

From your original post I understand that you would like to change your brakes in order to fit some smaller wheels + slicks? If thats the case, I always thought that going with brakes made for rally cars would be sweet. They all run 15 inches wheels (gravel events), but they still need tons of stopping power. Of course that would need a couple of custom parts / brackets to make it fits, but it's not impossible.

i know man, i think i jus try to find out too much info at one time, sorry if it seems a bit endless but im jus really stumped on this lol. i will take your advice though, and i will look into getting a set of those ss/na 17's. any hint on where i can get a shitty set or even a descent set? thanks man

true, see today i was chatting with mkriebs about all this and he mentioned somethin about "motorcycle slicks" and i was like ???????? but he did say a lot about how a LOT of custom work would have to be done if i went all out on a nice set of stoptechs, brembos, wilwoods, whatever.. so i think im jus gonna have to go the 17" ss/na route and maybe get some nice slotted rotors, and have my stock brembos powdercoated red or somethin to bring out a lil bit of bling that i want... but then for the rear brakes, i would want the same exact bling, so ****, thats another thing lol

Personally, I love my brembos. I like the idea of the SS/NA wheels to mount some meatier tires on for the track only. I hated the stock gm blanks. Its some soft ass metal for the agressiveness of the brembos. Upgraded to R1 slotted and performance is the same/better in certain conditions, better in wet than stock and Im getting NO scarring on them whatsoever. The stock GM blanks were scarred to **** after only 10mo. Especially the rears. I ride them kinda hard sometimes too. But if you dont like your wheels then your options are limited without replacing the calipers.

true. definitely gonna get rid of the stock rotors up front, and the rear setups, ****, i might donate them to some guys i know that like to blow **** up.

ive just heard some bad stuff about the brembo calipers on our fronts, heard they leak after a while or somethin. maybe jus need to take them apart and dig into the problem with my dad, see what he thinks, and jus throw on some nice rotors and some stainless steel lines and some better fluid.
