As an earlier poster said- it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this 15 HP nonsense was not wanting to **** off the "higher end" GM car owners. GM has a pretty long history of under rating, under tuning and reverse tuning cars to make sure the higher end vehicles always had the most power.

Hey, I'm an LSx guy myself like many others on here... but the power the LNF is putting down with really minimal work is pretty nice. I mean basically what my old '99 Trans Am was putting down before a couple small mods.

This pretty much put the nail in the coffin on ordering HP Tuners this week. I know some of the GM folks frequent this forum. Sorry guys, but I just can't hand you (most likely) $500 for 15hp.

i feel like this is a good thing for the most part yes its just 15hp..... but thats before an intake and exhaust....you may net gains of 20-30 with a good intake and exhaust, dp combo plus you get the expanded tuning capabilities with the new sensors. and what would it cost to get a tune and a second ecm to keep your warranty? 250 tune file+250 ecm+ 30 shipping=530??? i would have to have the gm kit

Having owned this car for 4 months now, ... the warranty didn't mean much anyway. The dealers around Des Moines have basically told me I'm stupid about a few nagging issues.

The stage 1 price needs to be low, and the stage 2 would be worth it if it came with a nice attractive intake.
If you truly believe that GM had concern for the aftermarket intakes people might already have when they were designing this...then you are high as a F*ing kite.

The LNF kit for the other LNF cars was about 290 hp / 340 ft-lb, IIRC. That is the benchmark for the LNF upgrade on the SS/TC w/o resorting to a new intake system.

IMHO, they should just sell the intake separately.
That way, i can be happy at the end of June, and even happier in 3 months.

theyre not gonna give us the full torque because of the F35, no way. Only the Kappas because they have a substantially beefier transmission.

The problem with the kit now becomes.... what if they cant get us the intake tube? If the new tube is where the sensor is to mount, will we have to rely on Aftermarket intake and charge piping to REDESIGNED for sensor mounting?

The Kappas and HHR dont have to worry because they arent having the same restrictions.

Im wondering where exactly these sensors would mount up?

What type of air intake does the HHR use? HHR is Delta I, same platform as the Cobalt.
What transaxle does the HHR use?

i know the box and routing are different on the HHR and Cobalt, as far as transaxle, HHR and Cobalt share the F35

How much torque does the LNF upgrade give the HHR w/ the F35? IIRC the manuals get more torque than the automatics (Kappa and Delta).

315 auto or manual take your pick, kappas differ on torque HHR does not.

Something I just noticed when i was looking at the install is that you will only get 1 download from GM per stage kit. So those of you who have 2 ecus, in order for you to get the baseline GM stage tune on both of them, you have to buy 2 stage kits to be stealthy around your stealerships. BIG FAIL, but smart on GMs part

Well this is not entirely the case. Someone will get a copy of their software and be able to load it onto a second ECU.

I'm sure HPTuners and Trifecta will work hard to get a copy of the stage tune.

copying the tune is not an issue, formatting the ECU with the new Operating system is the issue...

Im thinkin Superchips is getting my business, better numbers, no dealer wiring hackjobs, and ill be able to flash back and forth on a second ecu

However, the trick is that lots of dealers negate warranties when they see aftermarket parts, simply because they claim you abuse your car. The reason getting a tune can automatically void your entire powertrain warranty is because the computer controls pretty much every factory of your car. A crappy tune can ruin your car and even though most are better than GM's, it isn't stock so they dump your whole warranty.
Wow Routs, thanks TONS for the informative and thorough response. It's one of the best I've gotten since joining SS network.

Cheers and Thanks!

Anyone know if it will likely cost more to do stage 1 when it is released and then get stage 2 upgrade when it comes out opposed to waiting for both of them to come out and doing it all at once?

I'm thinking it was more expensive on the SS/SC to get stage 1, then upgrade to stage 2 than it was to do it all at once...correct?

My thoughts exactly.

I don't want two shop visits to the dealer.

No ****? so you bought the 06 LSJ stage kit and when the 07 tune became available your dealer called in the VCI number and you got the 07 tune? Thats good to know. I figured the VCI numbers determined what tune you got but they must be like a proof of purchase.... then they use your vin to determine the correct tune. Nice

Maybe GTPrix could get on this. Perhaps he could get Bosch ECUs pre-programmed to read 3bar. They of course couldn't sell ECUs with what is basically the stage kit tune on it, but that would be the part we could flash onto it after we had already gotten it.

It's a long shot, but it's an idea at least.
