Just saw this post on Facebook. They (facebook crowd) roasting him about it. Apparently Al asked him if he tried adjusting the wastegate. He took this as, oh okay I will adjust wastegate and see what happens. His text messages need time stamps to show that he misconstrued Al's message as "go adjust it" or "did you already adjust it".
If his text showed he responded immediately after saying he adjusted it, then I think ZZP is correct. If his time stamp of his text was like hours later or the following day, Id say Al miscommunicated.
If he had adjusted well before that text, Id say hes on his own. If he adjusted after reading Al post, Id blame Al for not typing his text message clearly. But if I were the customer, Id probably also ask a few more questions before I assumed it needs to be adjusted, especially if warranty was on the line.
Al's message probably should have said "Did you adjust the wastegate?" instead of "have you tried adjusting the wastegate?" like it was a solution to the problem.

He’d already messed with it. I understand what you’re saying about the wording; tone is hard to convey through text.

Yea idk about that. He is kind of leading him to it. Like asking someone saying they have misfire issues, and saying "Have you tried changing the plugs?" You automatically assume that must be the problem then.
Still his fault tho. Shouldnt **** with it without a 100% confirmation
