Busted Passenger door!! :(

My neighbor and I carpool together, he works for me. Today he went to get out of the car and went to grab the handle at the sametime the doors were unlocking. We heard a crunch, some **** dropped and he was stuck in the car WTF! Had to let him out from the outside, looked real cute lol!!!

Im going to take the panel off now and Ill post some pics of what happened

guaranteed the metal lock pin came out of it's housing since you were opening the door the same time it was unlocking. shouldn't be a bad fix.

I had my doors off once when I swapped interiors. It is likely broken where the plastic door handle meets the metal rod that pulls the mechanism.

See 2 posts above this one. Same thing

No biggie!

It's amazing when you first see the mechanisms that supposedly "lock" cars and how fragile and weak they are. The metal lock rods on my DD could be pulled with the wind. LOL

Is that round piece on the end supposed to be flat? The pin just popped out of the handle but when I put it back in it almost looks like that wants to clamp down and lock it in. But mine is bent up and wont.

you may need a replacement piece if it's not bending back down. usually a sign that something else broke off.

This happened to me on 3 outta 4 doors on my fairly new durango back in high school, pain in the butt. What really sucked is I couldnt find just those little plastic peices had to get whole new door parts which suuuucked. needless to say for quite some time you could not open any of the passenger doors from the inside

I think it is supposed to be round but it has to be rotated to slide in.

You don't need that plastic round piece. It's just there to help you get the metal rod into place. Hell, I broke it off on one side. If you should manage to break it like I did, just use a pair of super long needle nose pliers.

It looks like you just need to pop it back into place.

I had to fix my passenger side seat release handle today. That flimsy-ass piece of tin keeps bending and coming off the seat's pivot-peg.

The pivot-peg is loose, so I'm sure that's not helping matters, but I really don't want to get his taken care of until my warranty is almost up. The peg is riveted or pressed in, so I'd be looking at a new seat, probably. That would take forever.

This is what it's supposed to look like.

I think you should slap your friend/coworker upside the head with 9 inches of limp dick! That'll learn him.

It's angled like that because the only time you use it is to put the pin back into place. The angle helps. Once it's in place, that piece does not stay on the pin.

It's so anoying everytime you give a new person a ride, once you get to your destination the passenger typically opens the door once the car comes to a stop and doesn't wait for you to turn the key off, as a result they are pulling on the handle like TWF.

So annoying

I think I'm going to disable autolocks
